Oscar really struggling.
Crickets.Where's CATS at? Waiting for something good to happen?
To be fair those were some very well placed splitters that many players with decent discipline would bite at, not a ton out of the zoneOof, Oscar is getting picked apart brutally.
EVERYBODY is struggling. Just about EVERYBODY is lost at the plate or serving up gopher-balls or walks at inopportune moments.Oscar really struggling.
Conveniently absent though he’ll probably resurface to scoreboard watch.Crickets.
That’s about it, in a nutshell. They are really choking, under the pressure. But management let this happen. They either had unrealistic expectations for a bunch of rookies, or they were punting on the season - for no good reason.
Are you not entertained? We should be used to Cleveland baseball teams choking.
I've said this very same thing multiple times so I think you're wasting your time. However, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here.First of all, I didn't say the Guardians couldn't compete against playoff caliber teams. Now I know you have a bit of a history of being... let's call it particular... in the way you like to frame what people said as opposed to what they actually said, but let's not misquote anybody here.
You know what happens when a team reaches the playoffs? They don't face the opposing team's 4th and 5th starters anymore. They don't face their bench guys. The other team's best players don't get days off for rest. They don't face the 7th and 8th pitchers in the bullpen.
You get the very best of the best the other team has to offer every single game. It isn't like that in the regular season. I would be very weary of extrapolating regular season results as any sort of indicator of what will happen in the playoffs.
But if we want to get into some factual info... the Guardians don't hit a lot of home runs. If they make the playoffs they're going to be last in the AL playoff field by a mile in home runs hit. The Guardians also don't draw many walks. If they make the playoffs, they're going to be last in the AL playoff field in walks as well.
So more than any other team in the AL playoff field, they're more reliant on stringing together multiple hits in an inning in order to have a big inning.
Personally? I am of the opinion that when they're facing the other team's best starting pitchers and best relief pitchers every single game, this is going to prove to be more difficult to do.
It's obviously not impossible to do, but in my opinion it's far more challenging for a team to string together 4 or 5 hits off a guy like Alek Manoah or Shane McClanahan or Justin Verlander in one inning to score multiple runs than it is for one player to hit a home run off those guys.
