23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't know if dealing with the Yankees is the way to go then. Seems that their prospects come with a lot of unwarranted hype.
Agree with NYY hype.. but, that doesn't stop people from evaluating what they have and what they can offer..

Example.. I'm sure the NYY's Cashman would love to get a big offer for his best catching prospect, Wells.. Truth be told..Well won't make it as a catcher..he's questionable as a DH or 1B.. IOW.. stay away from this guys.. he's a dud..

But the NYY's do have a few guys that could be of interest:

Spencer Jones..is an Aaron Judge type.. he's a big strappin lad with a long LH'd swing and a lot of power.. He has great hand/eye coordination. He's fast, especially when he gets going (don't sleep on this guy when he's on the base paths) and has coachability and baseball IQ to go with his incredible swing speed. He can/should play CF.. and did play some 1B while recovering from TJ (he WAS a pitcher too). In short..there isn't anything on a baseball field except catcher that he can't do.. and do well.. ETA to ML's is in the 2024 - 2025 season (15.8 @ BTV)

Luis Gil: If the pen is a target to "reinforce" then this is the guy the NYY's have. They're developing him as an SP & he may become one..but right now.. (as in on the MLB roster right now) Gil has a FB/SL that, if he can be focused on only those two pitches.. he can dominate and/or be a LOT like emmanuel clase.. No REALLY !! (1.6 @ BTV)

Two catchers to consider..not because they can help right away:

Anthony Siegler..switch hitting athlete that fell in love with tools of ignorance. He's athletic as any catcher you're see.. has a HOWITZER for an arm..fantastic pop times.. soft hands.. great attitude.. btw.. he also throws with either hand. freakish athlete. He has an ETA of 2024 to the M L's & (BTV @ 0.4) IOW.. a throw in.. Our kind of catcher !!

Antonio Gomez bats and throws RH, isn't much of a hitter but he gets his whacks in.. but it's his arm and catching that makes him worthy of consideration. He can flat out stop any teams running game.. Remember how Pudge Rodriguez would just crush other teams attempts at running.. this guy has that kind of arm.. He does everything else behind the plate well to more than well.. and he's worth a risk.. His ETA to the ML's is listed at 2024...(BTV @ 3.0)

FWIW, Plesac isn't really a NYY kind of pitcher.. Aaron Civale is.. imho..and yes.. the NYY's DO need a SS..I wonder if our just average 183 base hits shortstop might interest the NYY's?

Thoughts?

I am not sure if Cleveland is open to trading Civale at the end of the day...

Do you think we could get a solid return for Plesac from the Yankees?

IDK what a "solid return" is from your perspective..

Hmm...

For Plesac, I am guessing a SP/RP that's MLB ready, then twoish prospects... Gil, Gomez and SP Serna type of deal work?

That explains nothing... What would you want back for Plesac...
A 6'2" center for the Lollipop Guild Basketball Team.

Or if he's 5'10", he has to have other attributes like a great wingspan and standing reach that makes up for his shortcomings with height. Maybe throw in an outside jumper and I'd be interested.

We love to suggest trades that benefit nobody but us....lol.

Heck, trades that benefit nobody.

Why on earth would NY want Amed? Why would we want IKF?

Answers...

They don't.

We dont.

If you absolutely insist on trading Plesac to the Yankees, trade him for Torres.

Torres plays 2B. Gimenez moves to SS.

But before you can do that, you have to find a legit trade partner for Amed...and, more importantly, you have to identify an in house, sure fire replacement for Plesac.

Don't say Morris, who hasn't thrown more than 61 innings since 2019, and has never thrown more than 89.

Easy... You trade both Amed and Zach for Torres. Because I can't see the Yanks giving up a 4 WAR guy for Zach Plesac alone.

From the Yankees.. I've provided you with some names for consideration.. but,you need to answer: why would the NYY's want Plesac when they have three just like him already??..

As I've stated.. Civale is the kind of SP the NYY's prefer to get back in a deal.. When Civale is healthy, he knows how to pitch (and keeps their idiot manager from having to make anything that resembles a smart decision).. Civale has the same kind of approach as Mike Mussina.. that's what the NYY's like.. In order for the Yankees to get Civale.. it's got to hurt hurt.. & the reason why it won't happen...

edit: Civale is more like the guys the NYY's settle for when they're not getting the best power pitcher available on the market.. Rodon, Cole.. etc..

IKF and a Rosario swap actually works out better than you think...

My reasoning...

IKF can play multiple positions including C if need be... He is a plus SS and has experience at 2B and 3B. He's a very similar style of hitter as Rosario (not as good but same style)...

This would free up ABs for a guy like Freeman... So my plan would be the 1200 ABs available for grabs, would be split between Arias, IKF and Freeman... If you keep Rosario, he's not strong defensively and now you have less flexibility to get Freeman in since Arias is the guy who can play multiple positions.

I'd rather watch Amed walk in FA than get IKF, and you know how badly I'd like to see Amed moved.

An average hitter/below average defender in the last year of his contract that cannot play other positions is in the way of 2 prospects currently on the ML roster with a third in Columbus. Those 2 prospects currently on the ML roster have some talent, but are unproven for the most part. I'm not even a big fan of Freeman as he has less power than Amed so right now for me it's Arias or Amed. Problem with that is Arias is the best option for the UIF position if he hits. Now you know why I like the idea of trying to acquire Rengifo so badly. Rengifo can play a UIF role or a solid 2B regularly. CATS mentioned Torres and that's a better idea too. Bottomline, I want nothing to do with IKF in any role.
