23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think the Dodgers are going to trade for Rosario personally not with some decent guys still available in free agency. I could see them making a signing here soon...

If they were going to trade for Rosario though, I have a hunch they would offer less we would want for Rosario, so the deal doesn't make any sense...

Now, I wonder if they want Freeman? Who would the Dodgers be willing to give up for Freeman?
Who are these "decent guys" still available in FA? The last one that I thought was decent is now wearing a White Sox uniform.

The question I have is if the Dodgers have interest in bringing in a MIFer would they prefer Rosario or Freeman?

hmmmm....

...which guys are part of "some decent guys that are still available..."? Any names?

..there are three suggestions posted.... which one is less than the Guardians want?.. what would make them better/acceptable? others ideas??

...Freeman would be a good acquisition for the Dodgers as it would permit them to keep Taylor in the outfield thereby not screwing with two positions..

Thoughts?

I'd take Outman and Knack for Rosario yesterday. I doubt the Dodgers would give Outman up for Rosario though. Would love to be wrong about that.

The Dodgers brought in Peralta to stymie Outman.. they might be more willing to discuss a deal that sees Outman leaving if they're getting a bona fide ML SS...

Well make it happen dammit!

Just get me Outman and Rengifo and I'll be very happy. That isn't asking for much so you should be able to do that. lol

I can easily in OOTP lol

That would be a helluva competition for OF playing time if Outman comes, along with OGonz, Valera, Brennan.
OGon and Valera are corner OFers and I'm not certain how good they actually are, and honestly I'd prefer Outman to Valera due to his superior defense. The way I see it, unless he shits the bed, Outman becomes your starting CFer with Straw as his backup. Valera will probably be in Columbus all season so that brings us down to Brennan. It basically comes down to what is most beneficial. Do you trade Valera or Brennan or both? Are any teams interested in Straw? I'm not sure what the answer would be in that scenario. All I know is that James Outman has some serious tools and just revamped his swing last season with excellent results. He's extremely fast, he's a very good defensive CFer, he gets on base at a high rate and he brings big power to a position that provided absolutely ZERO for us last season. We wouldn't have to give up the things that give Straw any value whatsoever in order to add a big bat.

Outman ain't good. I'm not exactly a Rosario fan, but I'd hate if we traded him for Outman.

Outman had K% in the high 20s in upper minors and high BABIPs masking his bad contact ability. Projections suggest he's pretty meh/average. And as a cOF only, that's not anything we need.

I'd shoot for Pepiot and if that's too rich, get a couple of high upside guys who don't need roster protection. Dodgers have plenty of intriguing young prospects to pick from.

Look over Outman's 22 season and his changes...

He definitely got way better

Edit: he reworked his swing if I remember correctly plus his BB rate has gone up and his SO rate has consistently went down...

Also he hit like 70 extra base hits last season... 31 2Bs 7 3Bs, and 31 HRs at AA/AAA and got some MLB time. His LD rate was like 30%+.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but Outman really has said F- you to the scouts and has been producing

This board loves lefty platoon corner OFs who hit lots of home runs, but can't make consistent contact.

Outman is a corner OF, not somebody you want to see playing regularly in center. He has fairly severe splits, and has Kd over 31% of the time vs lefties over the last two seasons.

We all know Amed comes with plusses and minuses. Even though Tito likes him, we all know Amed is gone after this season. No QO even. So I think the front office has to consider this opportunity.

IMO: Offensively Rosario / Gimenez > Arias / Gimenez or Gimenez / Freeman
Defensively Rosario / Gimenez < Arias / Gimenez but probably = Gimenez / Freeman.

As far as the return for Rosario - We've got SP pretty much ready now. They just need an opportunity.
We have enough MIF prospects to sink a boat.
While the outfield is promising, that's where the uncertainty is.
So Outman is an intriguing name. The potential is there. But he's 25, has 13 MLB AB's in his life. He has a high K rate. Plus, I'm not sure if CF is his position. I DO think the Dodger's would make him available for a starting SS.

If a trade is made he probably would be given first crack at an OF job. But do you want to go into a potentially contending season with somebody with so little MLB experience?

Tell me how much power we have in the organization? He adds an element we really don't have and he actually is rated fairly well be most scouts in the OF...

It's about adding an element to the roster we don't have to compliment who we have...

OGonz, Valera, Noel, Pries.

Every scouting report I can find questions his hit tool. Weve been shedding kids with no hit tool just about as fast as we can lately. If you read his various reports, you can substitute his name for Jones, Johnson, Chang, Zimmer when it comes to hitting...and Arias and Valera.

The Dodgers had him play 39 games in center last year, and 83 in the corners. Thats not how you groom a centerfielder, esp when you have an immediate opening at the MLB level.
