a top 10 QB on his rookie deal, with 2 more firsts, and a top 20 WR. You bet your ass they would take that in a heart beat
I don’t baker is for sure top 10. And he has one year on a rookie scale, his option year at 20mil, then he’s due for a raise.
They do it for the Jets next 2 1sts plus a 4th before they do this one.

this is a terrible trade for the browns. You are giving up a top 20 WR, a top 10 QB, and 2 first round picks. to get a top 5 QB. fuck no.

As as been speculated many times even if this was a 1 for 1 Mayfield for Watson from a browns stand point it still just doesnt make sense
Is OBJ really a top 20? He's probably fringe at best, if so.

Michael Thomas
DJ Moore
Mike Evans
Chris Godwin
Tyreke Hill
DK Metcalf
AJ Brown
Stefon Diggs
Justin Jefferson
Calvin Ridley
Deandre Hopkins
Terry McLaurin
Allen Robinson
Amari Cooper
Keenan Allen

That's like 15 names off the top of my head that are better than OBJ today. I'm sure I'm missing folks.

Also I'm not doing that trade to be fair. Just saying OBJ isn't a top 5-10 WR like he was 3 years ago.

I see you just missed the point of the post....

Would you prefer top 25 instead of top 20? The point isn't exactly where he fits, the point is he absolutely a game changing WR. Combine with Baker, and 2 firsts and its absolutely extreme over pay and even the texans who have no idea what trade value is would take that trade tomorrow

Imagine saying this after clearly not reading my whole post where I said I'm still not doing the trade.

Yeah if it was for mahomes I’d be all for it. But the difference between Watson and baker isn’t worth all of that.

This is the main issue.

Undeniably Watson is the better QB right now.

But how much better? Is Watson the #4 or #5 best QB? Where is Baker? #10? #9?

One balances this also with how much Baker will improve next season as well. Will he develop to #6 or #7? Is Watson on the Browns #3? How much better can he get?

Is the gap between say #7 and #4 worth all that in tangible assets, and the possible turmoil from the emotional fallout of moving the highly popular leader of an 11-5 playoff team that will challenge for the division and AFC next year?

I think most would say no. And the Browns won't offer it.

I've said this before. The difference between Deshaun Watson and Baker Mayfield, for the Browns, is NOT two 1sts, a 4th and OBJ...not at all. That haul needs to net Patrick Mahomes, not Watson.

To be fair, it was written by Bill Barnwell who is really good.

The concept of the article was essentially "here's something every NFL team could hypothetically offer for Watson" - some of the ideas were more realistic than others.

If you want to argue that OBJ isn't "top x" then go for it. But, that list is absolutely laughable.

Baker and a first and I do it. No way I give up Baker, two firsts, and OBJ. That's insane.

Half the appeal of trading for Watson would be pairing him with OBJ and Landry along with our great run game.

I am torn on trading Baker and a ton of assets for Watson. While I agree Watson is a better QB right now, I wonder how his cap hit and future contract will hurt this team.
With the cap crunch this year, I think drafting cheap depth and working on the defense is a priority. I have to believe that an average defense and Baker is a playoff team that can compete. If you get an above average defense I think Baker makes the team a super bowl competitor.
Also this is not a video game, where trading for the best players makes you the best team. You have to have a good culture and a culture that players buy into. I feel like Baker is that guy for Cleveland.
