BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Idk man. Just feels like we’re setting a precedent that anyone who doesn’t want to play here can ask for a trade and get their way

The Steelers doing that a year ago resulted in arguably the most lopsided trade in years, AB84 for a mid-3rd rounder.

I am not giving Njoku away for a 4th or 5th round pick. Screw that. This year we control the horizontal and the vertical. Tough shit, you play for the orange and brown, or you don't play. Next year when your contract is up, do whatever the hell you want. But, this year you are TE no 2. Suck it up. Screw his agent. He's not in control here.

I’ll add - still like Njoku and believe in his talent. I actually think he’d show up to camp and work hard without a trade. He’s never been one to complain without a good reason - a classic Rosenhaus move. Unless we can trade him for a high quality guard (which seems very unlikely) his value is too low to bother entertaining a trade.

To me it makes no sense for Njoku to leave Cleveland this season. He will be in a 2 TE set and I know there is Hooper as the number one TE, but looking at the main guys, having Odell, Landry, Hooper, Chubb as the main guys around you. I dont know anyones defense who can handle all 5 of those guys normally if the offense is being run right. I get hes not a number one, but a number 4 guy in the offense, but he should get the ball a lot more since he will be open a lot.

Pretty sure his name's not Cooper. :chuckle:

If a healthy player refuses to play due to a holdout, does the team have to pay his salary during that time?

Pretty sure they forfeit their salary for any games they sit out and the team can fine them as well.

Also, according to the new rules regarding holdouts, he basically has to report to training camp. Now, that doesn't mean he can't or won't sit out games, but I don't think he ultimately will. It just doesn't make sense to do so for a player in Njoku's position. Guys who hold out are typically ones who have seasons as one of the top players at their position like Dalvin Cook. Guys who have proven to be worth a hell of a lot more than the rookie salary they're making.

That ain't Njoku. He's still all athleticism and potential, but has yet to put it together and have a top ten season at his position. It's possible he may never do that. And he's also coming off of a lost year. He needs to get on a football field and prove his worth, and he won't do that by sitting out games.

I think it's important to remember that while the Browns did trade Duke Johnson after the request for a trade, the front office didn't pull the trigger until the value in return was excellent. DePodesta and the analytics department are in a good position here.

Best answer is depends, they get fined in the preseason where there are no game checks, then they lose their game checks and subject to further fines.

Usually the fines are only there help the team have a better negotiating position as they usually end up getting waived when they come to an agreement.

Do the Texans need a TE?
