Can't teach feel for the game. Can't teach court vision. Sexton has neither. He's not a PG he's a undersized SG. That's not debatable. It will never be debatable. I'm not saying he's bad but he has two flaws no amount of hard work can fix.

You CAN teach vision and feel. That's what the tape room, and scrimmages are for. They help players come to the realization of how to exploit situations/see openings in game. You are acting like people aren't capable of learning. Sexton has shown he is capable.

I just don't know what people expect from a kid this young. At this point, he looks pretty great. He's some growing to do, but you win games by scoring points. He can score. With proper coaching, the decision making and defense will come as long as he keeps up the effort level he's shown this far.

I see him as a chip on his shoulder guy. People have doubted him since he's entered the league, but he looks pretty decent thus far. These types are often hard workers that become great pieces. If he only ends up a 6th man of the year type of player, is that so bad? Those are the glue players a team needs to win. I see the 6th man role as his floor at this point, he could be significantly better.

Agreed. I think the fans frustration is because they don't have a star that he's playing alongside. No one wants to hear the Cavs lottery picks end up being a 6th man. If they'd gotten Zion or Morant this year, people wouldn't be so worried about Sexton.

YES. Every guy that Miami gets was born with vision better than Collin? I don't think so. They have a strong system that has been in place for years with rules. Just the type of thing Beilein was brought in to install.

What spins me out the most is that Sexton has shown time and time again he is a willing learner, can accept his flaws and make a conscious and dedicated attempt to working on improving said flaws.

As a people, we should probably take some notes on that.

It's hard enough to acclimate to this league, joining a team fresh off a championship that went through a complete rebuild, to now being relied on to a) score the ball; b) find teammates that are struggling to score the ball; c) play defense and; d) be a leader on this team.

Sexton couldn't shoot 3s to start his rookie campaign? He started hitting threes at a remarkably high clip, given the evidence prior.

Sexton couldn't play a lick of defense? He's shown a ton of spurts where he can be at least competent, if not, show a real diligence to moving his feet and fighting through screens to make it somewhat tough on his opponent.

Sexton can't rack up assists and his court vision is poor? What evidence is there to suggest that he can't at least - with a little patience from the fan base - make an attempt to improve this element of his game also?

I just can't believe some of the people who come in here and bash the hell out of Sexton day in and day out. Just relentlessly hating on the kid. Real Cavs Fans my ass.
Make no apologies for wanting whats best for the team and having players that are actually good over fake being happy with a player because we drafted him high

I expect that Sexton will be in the gym late tonight working in his 3 pt shot, he has been in a mini slump from 3. Nice to see that he had 5 assists tonight.

At least one nice assist got shoved down TTs throat.

I thought he had one of his better games despite not having an assist

Against Portland the whole team moved the ball better. They have been playing good defenses and the updated ranks says their schedule has been the hardest in the league. They have played quite a few good defenses. We should see the system hold up better against good defenses as time goes on. I don't think it's that surprising good teams have made the Cavs look like crap.

I remember thinking when I was younger and Lebron and Co would play so bad against the Garnett Celtics. I would get so angry and not understand why they forgot how to play basketball. Good teams make you look like you don't know what you are doing. It is hard to come to grips with that in the moment.

Sexton update
The "Way too Early" take after 20 games last year +/-: time to move on, straight line driver, unreliable jumper, no passing instincts, no defense.

The "OK, I've seen a full season" take: props where props are due, improved his jumper and his range and basically made things in his offensive game that were weaknesses into strengths. Defense still bad, passing still rough.

The "So how did the offseason do ya" take: Looks stronger, playing a little more under control, sometimes making the assist when he draws the D, when the 3 is going he's a tough guard, the defense has looked better.

Sexton's improving, in most facets, very encouraging. I would really like to see him make quicker decisions on moving the ball side to side and he could stand to mix up his pace a little. I was EXTREMELY down on him after midway through last season. Even now, I kind of consider him equal parts trade fuel or future big cog on a Cavs playoff team. Could go either way.

Outside of defense what has he improved on since last season? I would argue he has regressed on more things than he has improved

I don't think he has no vision. He just gets caught up. Game can still slow down a lot for him. He can learn more change of pace.

Def got rid of the ball a little earlier tonight and didn't get stuck in the paint as much.
