Outside of defense what has he improved on since last season? I would argue he has regressed on more things than he has improved
Exactly. He is already 20 years old and has zero upside. Time to move on from toung bull. Smh

I don't think he has no vision. He just gets caught up. Game can still slow down a lot for him. He can learn more change of pace.

Def got rid of the ball a little earlier tonight and didn't get stuck in the paint as much.

The young bull really is a perfect name for him as he sprints towards 4 defenders without a single teammate getting past the half court line. If he had his way we would be #1 in pace and not 24th as we are currently, instead we're relying on hero ball by our guards or a TT ISO (which is an amazing development in 2019 lol).

Sexton is almost too competitive and gets lost staring down the rim often so hopefully the 6 assists wasn't a fluke for him. His 3 point shooting struggles have also been an issue oddly this season.

An athletic big that can keep up with the guards and actually help defend the paint would be nice. Atlanta forever terrible and in front is pissing me off though. Watch them steal Wiseman.

Sexton does really want to run at a different pace than everyone else. Cedi and TT seem to be willing to go with him at times. Love can help with his outlet passes. Garland is the opposite, I think he would be happy if we had the 30th paced team.

I thought it was odd they went away from letting Sexton push the pace as often as they could early in the season to only doing it when Sexton get a rebound or the rebounder decides to give Sexton the ball after looking for other options.

One of the many reasons these two guards don’t mesh. Problem with what they were doing earlier is that Garland went ghost and got lost in the offense. Clarkson is the roadblock to Beilein staggering Sexton and Garland’s minutes. It’s either Garland/Sexton combo or the Clarkson/Nance show. Weird situation all around. I’m giving Koby this season before I join those critical of the Koby extension because I’m not seeing the vision but to be fair I also know it’s gonna be a LONG rebuild sadly.

“It seems inevitable now that Sexton will eventually be moved into a bench role, which could ultimately help both players thrive,” Lloyd wrote. “Somehow, despite Garland’s presence, Sexton’s usage rate has actually managed to increase from last year. Separating them and putting the ball in Garland’s hands more consistently will give the Cavs a better rhythm on offense while also allowing them a chance to succeed defensively. It will also free Sexton to do what he does best: attack.”

The end of the article has a good point with how they need to trend lightly with demoting Sexton though. I think this team doesn't have the talent to justify doing so this season. Sexton hasn't hit his ceiling and to demote him now without a clearly better player doing so, is going to rub him and his people the wrong way.

It sets the team back if they lose Sexton in the future to an uneven trade or him just playing on a qualifying offer after his rookie contract.

It's kind of why I didn't like Garland starting from day one. It's much harder to demote someone than promote them. They could have kept Garland and Sexton in different units until it was clear both of them could work together.

Thank God! Tired of watching them together on the floor.

ITS seems strange that if you do not have a labron or a rich paul connection how people on this board run down a player whether it was KYRIE or now Sexton.

Make no apologies for wanting whats best for the team and having players that are actually good over fake being happy with a player because we drafted him high
How is he not “good”? He’s leading the team in points and clearly has room to grow before he hits his ceiling. He still makes some poor decisions and could be better, but considering the situation he is in I think he is at least good. He’s no doncic or trey young, but he’s also not a natural passer. Unrelated-ish: I think we should prob give him the ball more in clutch situations over some of our vets. I can’t watch KLove brick another big Q4 shot :(

I agree we got to see what Sexton and Garland grow in to. They might end up being #2 or #3 options if we are able to find a true #1 option. Until we have or develop someone that is a true #1 option then we just need to keep developing what we have. We won't know who works best with that #1 option between Garland and Sexton or any one of young guys we have.

Demoting now or promoting guys that eventually will be demoted will build bad blood with the organization. I hope we just stay pat with the starting lineup and adjust the rotations to see who works best with each other. This team isn't close to being a finish product and the unknown pieces will probably have more of an impact on who are long term starter than anything else.

No one on the team is going to be mad that they haven't been promoted to a starter because our leading scorer is in that slot. Demoting your leading scorer will most likely have bad ramification in some way.

I'm all for splitting up Garland and Sexton. And I totally agree that long-term, Sexton looks like a scoring 6th man.

But right now, Sexton is likely to be frustrated if he's brought off the bench while Garland gets to stay a starter. I'm sure in his mind, he's balling out while Garland is still a little behind.

Just for reference this article takes quotes from the same Jason Llyod article as the one above and this was their take away. Same site but different writers.
