Then the Cavs are dead. You guys act like Rubio is a difference maker......he is not.
I want to see Garland thrown in the fire all season with Okoro at the 2 watching both stink it up with out Sexton all season so they dont make the mistake of paying the wrong guy

So Sextons camp only wanted 100mil? seems odd. I assume that was 4 years guaranteed which makes a little more sense but the "was not stick on that amount" seems confusing since there was no deal.
If there was flexibility but they still couldn't agree on a figure, then the Cavs must have really been off base on their offer smh no way he isn't at least worth 25 a year even if he comes off the bench
I am concerned about the direction of this team now more than before

100% agree

All that talk about wanting to keep Collin that Kobe was talking about the last few weeks was bullshit...imo

If,Collin was willing to take less to stay here;they should have gave him an extension. This organization act like free agents want to come here.

It's either Sexland or death. Once you accept that, you will be at peace. Mobley is 3 years away.

I think if we weren't able too draft a player of Mobleys potential a deal would be done by now, but drafting Mobley changed everything and the FO is cautious of capping out on players that could impede his growth and development. Imo best for both parties to just let the season play out, see what offers Collin gets as a restricted FA and then the Cavs can match if they think he's worth it. Or trade him of course if a great deal comes along

You sound like a Sexton fan and not a Cavs fan. There is no way I want my team to ever stink it up to make my point. You like Sexton great but this is a Cavs board not a Sexton board.

This wouldn’t be such a shock to some people if they had believed the reports that he’s been on the trade block for quite some time.

We’re 60-159 over the last 3 years. JBB, Koby, Sexton, Garland, etc. have been a big part of that.

I need to see them contributing to some decent basketball before I’m committing to any of them. Sexton isn’t being singled out. His contract simply ends before the others.

From an overly simplistic angle, Sexton makes me worried enough to offer certain amounts of money. What we KNOW is he's a very good player who has put up great stats on a bad team. Is he elite? I think the answer is no but I am unsure how far off he is from that.

It all comes down to running things wisely and if you feel he isn't what you desire to pay, you figure things out. What makes me worried is some of these idiots running the team think Ben Simmons IS worth the contract he got.

From the team’s perspective, what's the worst thing (within reason) that could happen by kicking this proverbial can down the road? A team signs him to an offer sheet that we don't match? That either means that he played well enough for us to increase his value, or that any contract that we would've given him would not look so hot after this season.

The Cavs exercised the option of a free year to evaluate him and his fit on a roster that still has so many questions that we need answers to. I never quite understood the rush to agree to an extension a year ahead of RFA, especially if it's for huge money, when the team has the right to match any offer sheet and still has the right to offer the biggest contract with higher annual raises than any other team is allowed to offer.

I suppose that a player's ego may be bruised, but how often does a player end up signing a max offer sheet for just one or two years just to spite his current team? The only time an extension makes sense is if a player is taking what the team considers a discount in order to secure his future, e.g. Mikal Bridges in PHX.

I totally agree with you. They are worried Sexton may stunt Evan's growth. If that appears to be he case this year, maybe they let Sexton walk. If he and Mobley have chemistry, and they play well together, maybe he gets 100M at the beginning of free agency.

My understanding of the reporting on the 100M was that it was not fully guaranteed, and that playoffs or other team goals were baked into that number as far as incentives go. There were rumors of 4 80 or 4 90 with another 10-20 in incentives. I don't think the last year was a team option or a Koby special, but that team goals would need to be met for him to get the full amount. Mostly speculation.

One thing is for sure. I think they have made it very clear that ppg is not going to get Sexton the contract he wants. It is being a defender, playing a team game, and moving the ball that are going to do it.

I really think he made strides in these areas last year. We'll see if the contract situation affects anything. Hopefully for the better.
