Last night's game was a pretty good example of why we could really use Sexton. Even if he's not ideal height. Watching Garland try to do everything with limited success, or have guys like Mobley try to go 1-1, was horrible to watch.

Yeeh, the Cavs were +23 with Garland and -16 in the nine minutes he was on the bench. If the Cavs could have brought in Sexton when Garland was down there would be a shot creator on the floor and a guy who can break down defenses and get a good shot.

It's worth pointing out that after averaging 3.0 assists per game his first two seasons Sexton improved to 4.4 last year (Garland was at 6.1 last year) while scoring a career high 24.3 ppg.

According to Sexton, his role is “totally different.” The green light from Bickerstaff flickers in the first four seconds in transition or the last six seconds on the shot clock when the offense bogs down and the team needs a bail-out option. Apart from that, Sexton explained his role as playing from the corners, spacing the floor and staying active away from the ball. It’s about picking and choosing his spots, when to make room and when to attack...

“I’m still just trying to get used to it,” Sexton said. “It’s going to take time. It’s something new. Not something I expected. But I’m going to pick it up and run with it.” - Chris Fedor, 10/27/2021

He means so much to this team. You look at games like the other night where we couldn’t score the ball in the first however many minutes, they went on a big run, the Warriors did, he bails us out of those types of situations. - Kevin Love, 11/22/21

Sexton was trying to do the same thing before he got injured that Lauri Markkanen is doing; learning to play a completely different role than they did in their first 3-4 seasons. It took Lauri almost half a season but it's now clicking. Too bad Collin didn't get the same chance, but he will next year and I'm excited to see what he can do off the ball - running around screens for catch and shoot or catch and drive opportunites, back door cuts, catch and shoot 3's or pump fake and blow bys from the 3-point line.

I think if Sexton is healthy, Garland probably doesn't play 39 minutes in that game. Not only can Sexton help to reduce Garland's minutes, he can reduce the load on Garland during the minutes he does play. 32-34 minutes for Garland playing per game with probably feel alot different with and without Sexton when he comes back.

I think Garland will feel the reduce workload and hopefully be happy to have Sexton back. It could help build their chemistry and how they carve out their roles. @Cavatt said this earlier but we might see Garland be willing to score less points while having more assists when Sexton comes back. I could see them both being happy with Sexton being the scorer while Garland is the assist guy when they share the floor.

Why would we want that?

Why would we want that?

Because the load being put on Garland at the moment isn't probably sustainable year after year. You see players able to step up and take on a load like this for a season but when they are asked to do it year in year out they tend to start wearing down prematurely or they just can't stay healthy over a 82 game season and the playoffs.

I think Garland will most likely realize the regular season toll is alot less if he can give some of that load to Sexton. I think Garland likes being the assist guy and Sexton likes being the scorer. I think the give and take to have them work will lean to where Garland racks up a couple more assists to allow Sexton to score.

There are some that have compared Garland to Steve Nash. Nash never averaged 20pt per game over a season but he was happy to put up 10-11 assists while being the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th leading scorer.

Garland is exhausted at the end of games is the big one, and also it's easier to guard the team when everything runs through Garland. He's hard to guard, don't get me wrong, but we are going to see them sell out to stop him in the playoffs.

Sexton has little to do with the load on Garland. Sexton is a defensive burden. He himself is a stressful player to others.

I demand a trade for a playmaker just so I won't have to suffer through watching our torturous fourth quarter offense

Rocking that Mary j bridge shirt lol and the chemistry with the team seemed awesome I’m confident he ain’t going anywhere

I actually really believe this now as well. This wasn’t always the case, but it’s becoming more and more clear there is a defined and much needed role for Sexton on this team and he seems like the type of guy willing to sacrifice to win.
