Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Coaching at the MLB level has changed a lot.

Nowadays, coaching is a collaborative effort throughout the organization. Because communications have improved vastly, it is not difficult to take a team approach to coaching from MLB to rookie level. My guess is that the new hitting coach will come from outside the org in order to add another perspective...much like has been done with the pitching.

We've already seen a 180 degree turn on the type of hitters we acquire, and the development of that type of hitter will continue to evolve with a new set of eyes and a new voice added to the org.

I don't know the Baltimore system, but their pitchers that did reach the majors seemed remarkably bad. In that division it could take a long time to make progress.
If they can get a SP like McKenzie along with those excellent, near ready prospects then it seems like a pretty even trade to me. Both parties would have reasons to scream the F word upon hearing about it. I think that suggests it's probably fair.

Well, that leaves a few things for the imagination. lol
No imagination necessary.. you would have had to have read the entire posting to appreciate why it was deleted..

Suffice to say.. collectivism is the domicile of cowardice..

OK, I can't stop laughing at this so thanks.

I gotta say this, nothing screams "hey fuck you!" quite like a responsive post that reads "delete". I can't stop laughing!

Yes, we can refer back to the post by Coach where he stated that Dr. Phil couldn't even help me.

LOL - I gotta big mouth and sometimes it takes me a minute or 2 rectify... Glad you gotta laugh

If the Orioles were willing to trade Cedric Mullins, what package of current players and prospects would you give up for him? For example, would you be willing to put Civale in such a deal?

I moved it here to keep the other thread cleaner...

Civale and Bieber will try to be extended so neither guy will be available in a trade...

Plesac is open to being traded, I dont think they want to move Quantrill, TMac, Morgan, Morris and Espino... I think anyone else should be available for the right price when it comes to pitching.

I am thinking Arias is the man who would be available in the INF... Jones could also be available, but I am thinking Freeman, Valera, Rocchio and Lavastida won't be open to be traded...

So a deal with Plesac, Jones, Arias, Johnson and like a Battenfield would have to get us Mullins... Would you be willing to part with Mullins plus someone maybe like Mancini for that?

Again, IMO Plesac doesn't fit what Baltimore needs. They need six years of control, not four.

Johnson is not a consideration for anybody. He can easily be picked up on waivers in December. (The Orioles have first shot at any AL player put on waivers)

But, as GM, my job is to make the team better, so I have to measure any gain by what I view as the difference between Plesac and Morgan, plus the drop from Morgan to a kid who has never pitched in MLB. I value Plesac more highly than the fans do. I value him more highly than Espino, because its doubtful that Espino could produce at Plesacs level in 2023, let alone 2022.

From Baltimores point of view, how could the Orioles sell a trade of Mullins to its fanbase?

Well, they could point to one of the ranking services and say that they just traded Mullins for three of the Guardians top five prospects, or four of their top ten...including their top pitching and hitting prospects...and that all of them might be playing in Baltimore in 2022.

So, maybe Espino, Jones, Arias, and a throw in (Zimmer, Chang, Clement, etc) for Mullins.

Thats a lot to give up, and it doesn't have to be Mullins. It could be Reynolds or Laureano.

But from my point of view, I'd be giving up spare parts, and losing Espino is the only one that really hurts. I'd still have the four that I value the highest... Rocchio, Valera, Freeman, and Lavastida.

I have Arias as my fifth option among MIFs. Adding an OF means less of an opening for Jones. And my rotation for next year is intact thru at least eight SPs.

I've spent no money, so I still have cash to fill the other outfield spot and/or protect myself at 1B. My 40 man situation has been eased somewhat.

And with Mullins added to Jose, Amed, Straw, Gimenez...and the bevy of near ready (2023 at the latest) prospects, the team is almost set for at least two years. Four years, if I can extend Jose.

Looking ahead twelve months to next off season, I'd have Valera, Rocchio, Freeman, and Lavastida ready for MLB...which just might fill my need in one corner of the OF and behind the plate. The only real concern might be 1B, if Bobby flops.

I'd be OK with that trade......Noone likes to give up on "Potential"(Espino/Jones), but we are at 5 years and Sheffield and Frazier have yet to give regret by contributing real sustained success at the ML level as example.

I am doubting that the FO is willing to trade Espino and I don't disagree with your logic but my deal ends up giving them Plesac and Battenfield for SPs plus Arias, Jones and an OF who never got a chance in Cleveland honestly. As an organization, even if Plesac wasn't the actual player you wanted, if he's good for you in 22 in 23 he's got 3 years of control and you could even get a few more prospects for him, plus Baltimore has the money to extend guys and if they like Plesac they can extend him as well and he is proven at the big league level at least as a MOR... I'd personally rather have the flexibility Plesac with another SP prospect (who is rated fairly well) than just one top end pitching prospect. Pitchers can be volatile especially when it comes to younger pitchers since it's not uncommon anymore to see elbow/arm/shoulder injuries as guys are developing their bodies.

The way I am looking at it is this, Arias (SS) and Jones 3B/RF will starting with Baltimore in 22 more than likely, with Johnson at CF/RF and Plesac being a 1/2 in the rotation... Then Battenfield could be ready in the second half of the season for them... Mullins also isn't a great CF, he is a plus athlete, but doesn't have the best defense in the world so LF/RF is probably were he would end up in due time... I just personally like Plesac over Espino since I can swap him again if he pans out...

I hear what you are saying but I personally consider Espino to be a much better prospect than Sheffield is/was. We should be prudent with him and see how he handles the higher levels in 2022. Wouldn't surprise me if ends up a top 5 pitching prospect by seasons end.

Look at his High-A numbers, I do not think I want to risk losing that at this point.
