I am just not on board as seeing Miami as that much better then they were before.

Walker - He will not help Miami because he just never understands that he isn't on the same level as the other players. He will only take away shots from Wade and Shaq...that is what I see him doing on the Heat. This the same as Dallas, tons of talent all around him, but Walker never seems to understand that.

Williams - is this really an upgrade over Damon Jones? Williams is popular because his a white guy that is really flashy, but with that flash comes mistakes and stupid decisions. Excitement doesn't win basketball games.

Posey - To me, this is the Heats only solid acquisition.

Walker and Williams are just big names, not big talent. I don't see them as upgrades. I wouldn't want them on my team. Posey is an upgrade over Eddie Jones though.

Jason Williams is ranked #16 in Assist/TO ratio in the NBA, which basically means he gets less credit than he deserves for his skills. He is also a pure scorer and can push the tempo a lot better than Damon Jones. Antoine Walker is an excellent basketball player, no matter how much you don't like him. Look at the turnaround Boston fueled after he returned to the team, there is no way that he doesn't make the Heat better. Their line-up is stacked man, you can't deny that they improved. JWill, Wade, Walker, Haslem, and Shaq will be impossible to mess with. Posey is going to be on the bench, that is how good this line-up is man. Wake up bro, they are easily better than any team in the conference.

Jason Williams a better defender than Eddie Jones? 1st off, they play different positions. Secondly, Eddie is one of the premier perimeter defenders in the league. Very smart and hard working on that end. And I would say he's a more prolific spot up shooter than Jason is. Williams would fit best in a team that needs a PG to lead the team. Miami is not that team, they already have Wade to command the ball. Cleveland wouldn't be either. A team like Atlanta, actually, would be a perfect fit for Jason Williams. He enjoys driving and shooting off the dribble with his quickness, attracting double teams and passing out to the open man. This is already done in Cleveland and Miami by LeBron and Z, Wade and Shaq.

Lyxo, he was talking about Damon Jones, the guy JWill is replacing at PG, remember?

Damon Jones was 4th in the league in assist/to ratio last year, 2nd the year before that. And how is Jason williams a better pure scorer than Damon Jones. Damon can actually shoot the ball, Willams is sub.400 for his career shooting.

well first the nets look good but u got to remember that kidd just turned 89 years old, and who knows if jefferson can make it thru the season, for the pacers o'neal is always getting hurt, and artest who knows about but without miller shooting those nice three's it makes them go inside more then they would with miller. heat look really good but walker never passes the ball it will be fun to see how it turns out for them and shaq is a year older.

pistons make no moves at all which i hope someone can figure the players out and pistons also lost a great coach with alot of pride and it will hurt them. pacers lost a great three point shooter in miller and o'neal cant stay healthy and artest is so stupid he will most likely do something to get inself in trouble, nets look good but alot of old players, and heat look good but walker never passes so will be interresting in how that works out, so look for the cavs to be right there with the heat break it down there not that far about with players.

Here is my team by team analysis the only ones put in order in terms of projected success are the first 5. Everyone else after that is just mentioned to see how they all did. Enjoy :)

Indiana has to be tops because they add their best if not 2nd best player in Artest. Who is better then either of the two big players the Heat got. Don't go by their record of last season Jo missed around 30+ Jax missed around 30+ Tinsley missed some due to injury and Reggie Miller had a broken hand. This offseason they added a top 7 pick projected in Granger, and the sweet shooting Sarunas Jasikevicius to backup Tinsley.

Miami was a contender in the Eastern Conference finals and swung a trade to dump the aging Eddie Jones for the Flashy Jwill the never shy about hoisting Antoine Walker and the talented James Posey. Wade's 3rd year should be impressive as was last years, If Shaq doesn't get one of those "nagging injuries" like a messed up toe or something doesn't sideline him. Haslem re-ups my gut feeling says Damon Jones is gone after being supplanted by J-Will.

Cleveland made the biggest splash this free agency by acquiring Larry Hughes and adding his 22 points 7 boards and league leading steals. Donyell Marshall's 42% from 3 point land and being the only player to be top 25 in 3 pt% and rebounds per game. And the resigning of Zydrunas Ilgauskas a top 5 center in the game. New coach Mike Brown who spent the past few seasons as Rick Carlisle's assistant is going to be bringing his defensive specialty to the Cavaliers.

Detroit has basically sat idle all offseason. Their only acquisition was Jason Maxiel from Cincinnati who was selected first round when he was projected between 40-50. This has to be a shot in the arm for Darko who under Flip is hoping for more playing time but with Rasheed, McDyess and now Maxiel it looks like he will again be riding the pine pony this year. Remember how badly they struggled early in the season? As we led the division they were basically playing .400 or .500. That was due in large part to Larry Brown's absence due to hip surgery, beleive me you don't lose a top 5 coach in NBA history and improve.

New Jersey Nets have have had a decent offseason with the acquisition of Shareef Abdur Rahim. 1 question though has Shareef ever been happy with the team he is on? He has wanted out everywhere he goes every season. Vince Carter is still there but if the team struggles will he pack it in like in Toronto? Can he stay healthy? he has had some serious questions himself as to whether he can holdup..I think those two plus Jeff McInnis equals a lazy team. Shareef and Jeff wouldn't know what defense was if you pointed to it in Websters Dictionary. How will Jason Kidd holdup? He has had some serious knee problems and isn't getting younger, don't be surprised to see him miss 10-20 games and watch the Nets fistfight over who gets the shots without the main distributor. They really don't have much of a bench either, where is the toughness/rebounding/dirty work player on this team? If you find anyone let me know.

After 5 it is basically a tossup, the 76ers are a team to watch with AI and CWebb having more time to gel and for him to heal up. Any team with Iverson is a team that can win on any given night. Dally and Korver received fat new extensions, but the question remains is Samuel Dalembert going to blossom offensively? Most of his points are on broken scramble plays and lobs from AI. He has yet to develop a jump shot or any low post moves. Do they have much of a bench? Marc Jackson is all I can think of, they have postponed the signing to Willie Greene after a serious knee injury which WILL require surgery to repair..

Washington Wizards made a decent attempt at recover from the loss of Larry Hughes and Juan Dixon. They added Antonio Daniels and dealt Kwame Brown for Caron Butler and I think Chucky Atkins. I don't think they have a real legit low post threat, Etan Thomas is overpaid and Brendad Haywood hasn't really gotten much better in the last few years. Gilbert and Jamison are still there though.

The Bulls normally would be a higher mention but being that Chris Duhon, Tyson Chandler, and Eddy Curry are all still unsigned. Those are 3 very important players that you can't dismiss. If they lose Curry or Chandler with no compensation you can basically write them off this season as they will have only the declining Antonio Davis as the only real big man. Chris Duhon brought the heat defensively off the bench for them also and would be a tough loss. So before I give the Bulls their just due, I'm going to wait for Chicago to make ANY moves as they drafted no one signed no one or anything.

The Orlando Magic haven't done much besides the signing of Keyon Dooling who I guess is a good signing but If you ask me Jameer Nelson should be the starting point guard. Dwight Howard will have another great season as he maybe underachieved a bit in the first half of the season in terms of offense last year but as he got some more minutes under his belt you saw why he was drafted 1st showing great post moves a body built for rebounding and an incredible understanding of the game. Question is will the stevie francis trade rumors subside? or will they ultimately frustrate the frachise to the point where he pulls a tmac and asks to be out. Another thing to mention is the fact that 1st round selection 11th overall forward Fran Vazquez has decided to sign with Spain for a few years as he said " I am not ready for the type of game played there I need a few years still" Correct me if I'm wrong...but why draft a player so high without knowing whether he wants to make an impact on your team now. This isn't like the 50th pick saying I'm staying over there for a year or two, this is a lottery pick wasted for the Magic.

The Celtics had a nice draft catching prepstar Gerald Green in free fall at the 18th pick. This pick raises a question though, with Green's high billing and lofty draft projection (top 5) will this be the beginning of the end for Paul Pierce? They also have a bit of a logjam with Banks West Allen Pierce and Davis all all at the Guard positions. Their youth bodes well for the future my personal favorites Green and Jefferson should be a pair to watch in a few years.

The Knicks added Larry Brown this offseason but will he co-exist with the hard headed Marbury and Crawford? He and AI clashed because neither would admit they were wrong so how will he handle two players like that? Basically every player on the team without a rookie contract is being massively overpaid for. They signed Jerome James after dealing Kurt Thomas for guess who another score first pass 2nd player. They have around 6 powerforwards as they draft 1 if not 2 every single season. They dealt the only Center who produced for them last year in Nazr Mohammed for the overpaid underachieving Malik Rose. This roster is horrible like 6 or 7 players at the SG and PF spot each makes me not even open the door to possibly thinking of maybe contending this season. Larry Brown wants "his" type of players so look for a possible roster overhaul.

Everyone else is basically not there yet or rebuilding. The Bucks overspent for Redd and Simmons badly, their weren't many suitors for Simmons who only got 16 ppg last season. He is overrated in my opinion, he had 1 alright year where his other 3 or 4 seasons he got like 5 ppg or so. You don't give 10 million per to a player who has only had 1 ok not even great season. 150 million is too much for these two. Bogut I'm not sure about either his ego seems like it may not fit the liking of the rest of the team. His temper is another thing to watch for as he was tossed from a summer league game after only getting 6 points against the backups of the Indiana Pacers. My question is how will he fair against the big time big men Shaq Ben Brad Z Magloire Okafor and Howard? TJ Ford's return is a plus I guess, I dont see him being a huge piece for them as he has missed around a year and a half of action and had a very very serious injury.

The Hawks are trying to complete a sign and trade for Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams went to them in the draft along with my pick for steal of the draft in sharp shooter Salim Stoudamire. They have no big men besides Obinna Ekezie or something who I don't even know of and I'm sure you havent heard of him either. They may have a nice back court but their front court will get it handed to them on a nightly basis.

The Bobcats had a nice draft as they are just trying to build a respectable roster. They added two more lottery pieces in Felton and May. The thing I like about them is that all of their lottery selections have won NCAA titles, Felton May and Okafor have all won on the previous level. They know how to win and it should only be another 2 seasons until they are knocking on the door to the post season.

My pick for worst team in the East has to be the Toronto Raptors. They have failed on the past 3 lottery selections. Araujo is a big stiff and didnt produce when he did play. Charlie Villenueva was projected picks 12 and beyond not 7th. And why draft at the position where your best young player plays at? They selected Graham when Granger should have been off the board at their pick at 7. They had a terrible draft and the only player picked at the right selection in my opinion Roko Ukic won't even be coming over this season.

From top to bottom, the East is definitely better than the West now. Here are my rankings with commentary:

1. Miami....Either Jerry West has become senile or he's simply doing his buddy Pat Riley a favor before he leaves Memphis and retires in Florida. The league really should investigate this deal. Very fishy. Anyhow, Miami is stacked and may yet still bring Damon Jones back into the fold. Wade will continue his ascent into the league's top 10 players. JWill and Walker will allow Shaq to coast until the playoffs. Look for Shaq's assist total to rise.

2. Detroit...Ben Wallace is a huge difference maker. This team is built to take advantage of teams that don't take the regular season seriously. They will harass you defensively every night. They are the defending conference champs and added more defense with the drafting of Jason Maxiel. Flip is an imposter, but Ben, Billups, and Rip will not let this team underachieve. Winning is what they do.

3. Indiana....Artest is the biggest factor here. He is one of the league's greatest all around players. Tough and intimidating. Bruce Bowen with an offensive game. They will miss Reggie's clutch shooting but Jackson and young Granger may be able to fill in admirably. Not sold on the Euro Jaskevicious, he must prove himself in the NBA. Indiana tends to play down to the competition, this fact hinders them from being the best.

The rest of this list may realistically be seperated by only 5 games or so.

4. New Jersey....Vince Carter is back! Jason Kidd now has weapons which will allow him to do what he does best....make plays. Shareef and Jefferson give this team lots of versatility. Not sold on their post defense and center play. This team should easily win its division. JMac was another quality pick up. Kidd will definitely not put up with any BS from JMac. A good situation for JMac to mature or else. I also wouldn't put it past Jay-Z to have someone beat JMac's azz if he starts to cut up.

5. Milwaukee.....Much like last year's Bulls, will surprise the league as they continue to improve under the radar. TJ Ford's return to full health is the catalyst here. The Bucks were on pace for 48 wins with a worse roster when Ford went down to an 18 month injury during his rookie year. All signs lead to a full recovery as TJ has been lighting up the practice floor. Has the confidence of his teammates and doctors. Milwaukee boasts quality depth at pg, sf/sg, and the center position. This team may be the division's best equiped team to deal with injuries. Bobby Simmons as a defensive matchup against the likes of Artest, James, and Deng is an improvement over the smaller Mason.

6. Cleveland.....Cannot rate this team higher due to the uncertainty at the point gaurd position. Damon Jones would help but is a non factor on defense. Larry Hughes and Lebron James will be an exciting duo to watch. Skeptics question Hughes injury history and sub-potential play in non contract years. Four teams at 26 years of age could be telling. Hopes also hinge on the feet of Ilgauskas. He must stay healthy and play big minutes for this team to advance in the playoffs. Lebron James must continue to mature as a player and a leader. When things fall apart, he must pick up the pieces and will his team to victory. Marshall was a huge sign and addresses needed depth. With arguably the best off-season in the division, the Cavs will have to play under heavy expectations. Are they ready for the challenge?

7. Philadelphia.....Allen Iverson and Chris Webber have a half a season under thier belts. Re-signing Dalembert, Korver, and Green were huge for continuity's sake. This team will play hard for the beloved Maurice Cheeks. Igoudala will continue his meteoric rise a la Richard Jefferson. After Shaq, Iverson may be the league's biggest difference maker. Iverson may be the one guy in the league that can beat a team by himself.

8. Chicago......Great coaching and nice young talent. They will not be underestimated this year and teams will be better prepared for their hustle. Not sure if Chicago's backcourt stacks up against the division (relatively speaking). Duhon/Hinrich are not as good as Ford/Redd, Snow/Hughes, Billups/Hamilton, or Tinsley/Jackson. Low basketball IQ at the center position. Can't erase memory of Chandler chucking a two when down by three in the playoffs. Curry may be done. If he comes back, he must bring more than 5rpg to the table.

9. Washington....Loss of Hughes will hurt. Daniels is a nice comeback. Lack of quality frontcourt depth will keep them out of the playoffs. Haywood is still an underachiever. They won't win consistantly until he brings 15 and 10 with 2 blocks to the table. Arenas can't win every game. Good team in a talented conference

10. New York....Marbury and Richardson look nice in the backcourt. Adding a center in James will allow Sweetney to play power forward and Thomas to slide into small forward. Larry Brown has shown the ability to squeeze more victories out of weaker teams than any other coach. Nate Robinson was a hugeacquisition.

11. Orlando....Steve Francis, Grant Hill, and an improved Dwight Howard will keep this team competitive. Vazquez fiasco has to hurt. Ouch. Dooling will help solidify backcourt depth.

12. Boston....Youth movement underway. Pierce will not be happy with Walker going to a conference rival for the second time. Look for Pierce to be dealt. Gerald Green is the future there.

13. Atlanta....Joe Johnson will give them some level of credibility. Salim Stoudamire is an extremely dangerous shooter. Nice young talent that will be a player again soon. Need to land some frontcourt talent. Until then, an also ran.

14. Toronto....Bosh and Villanueva are nice upfront. Snagging the cowboy Joey Graham with their second number one was a nice pick up. No talent at center. Rafer is an average point gaurd at best. Still needs pieces.

15. Charlotte.....Nice young pieces in place in Okafer, May, and Felton. Still years away from competing. Should not have dealt Jason Hart as he was a solid backup on offense and defense.

You said that the Cavs had the biggest offseason and we tied for the 8th seed AHEAD of the Bucks and they are better? Bogut can't handle the Pacers bigs, he was UN-impressive, and no TJ Ford is not Isiah Thomas in his prime or Nate Archibald or even Steve Nash so get off his nuts, he just broke his neck you act like he fixed his horrid jump shot by 100% or something. He is not god, he was decent then he will be worse now not having played competitive basketball in over a year.

TJ is a bucks homer. Let him enjoy his views while he can. We'll let our season talk for us. Sound good CDT?

not only are the bucks not going to make the playoffs-- they are going to suck during the 05-06------------------------> PERIOD

TJ, your recap was very good outside of your blatent Milwaukee homerism.

Wow.

Intelligent post TJ. You know your stuff. Oh yeah I think you had a typo at #5. The bucks right ahead of the Cavs......see it?......yeah it's ok we all know that's not true. The Bucks will be good but better than the Cavs, keep dreamin. You Milwaukee fans gotta lay off the beer!

I hope you'll be around during the season so you can admit the error of your ways. Cavs sweep Bucks 4-0. You heard it here first!
