Went back and watched Mobley in the tournament today and man it was such a treat.
Against Drake he was clearly the top talent in the game.
A smooth 17-11. Dominated the game defensively.
against Kansas , Mobley only scored 10 points(4-6 from the field tho) but stoop absolutely dominated the game in so many areas. 13rebounds 4 offensive. 5 assists. 3 blocks. 1 steal. Only 1 turnover. 27mins They blew 3seed Kansas out by 34 ps. They couldn’t do a damn thing to near or around or about Mobley.
Against Oregon he had a modest 10-8-6 2blocks but when you look at how well he did offensively to make plays and get the ball to his guards…White and Eaddy…both of whom went off for 20+ on a combined 15–21 from the field. This game he used his passing and defense to control the game and overcome a monster performance by Omoruyi on the wing (28-10) to beat Oregon by double digits.
even against Gonzaga where the entire USC team was outmatched In skill and experience, Mobley put up 17-5-3. Shot 7-8 from the FT line. But couldn’t overcome Jalen Suggs carving up
USC guards on his way to a near triple double 18-10-8 as they ripped apart the USC zone. That was a coaching and guard failure more than anything…Mobley held his own against the older Timme who had 23 but needed 19 shots to get there.
Mobley’s tournament play is exactly what we’re seeing so far in the preseason. As he develops his offensive game over time like every big man of his caliber before him(like AD, etc)…I mean it’s already advanced as hell for his age…if he played 4 years in college he’d probably be dropping 25-15-5 a night on 60%+ from the floor, lol.
just was an absolutely elite prospect. He’s the surest thing the Cavs have had since drafting Kyrie who was basically the surest thing since LeBron. It can’t be understated how ELITE of a prospect Mobley is. I think he’s clearly a better prospect than Ayton was and it’s not even particularly close. Better than Wiseman and not close.
We are so lucky to have him. That is all.
I do wish we would run more plays where we give Mobley the ball above the 3pt line, clear out and let him work. Even if we did it 1 time per quarter. I think it would help him develop those skills that he obviously has, develop confidence…etc etc.
