JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The funniest part is that he was great in Denver, had a good year in New York, and then crap. The common denominator is that those teams all went to the playoffs and the others were crap. Seems the trend is that X factor role(Lance stephensons style) that when the team does well, he does and when they don't then he won't. Time will tell but the Lebron relationship should go along way to Lebron's commands to him. I'm oddly interested to see him with so many open shots. There will be nights were we will all hate his 2-10 shooting ass, but there will be nights were he puts up 25 and is on sports center too. I would hate it if it's just him, but the value of shump and a valuable 1st will hopefully help our efforts for the center we DESPERATELY need.

Edit: I'm not saying that we would trade shump, he is what we need 2nd most to anything and he is young. Great potential to be a longtime starter and I've seen him as having the potential to now be a poor mans jimmy butler(less offense, maybe a bit more speed/ball handling).

Funny how if anyone had said "let's get JR Smith" on this board 24 hours ago they'd have been neg repped to death.

Mob mentality says now that JR Smith has upside.

Lol.....

im not saying he's going to be a world beater but

he's taller than dion
he's a better outside shooter than dion
he doesnt hate kyrie irving
he's actually been 6th man of the year

Not upside. Known quantity. Good and bad. Some of the good he does happens to correspond with things we need for this team. For all the talk of him being a "loser" he played well on playoff teams in Denver and New York. JR Smith was not the reason those teams weren't championship teams. So no, no one thinks he is "the answer". And no one wanted him 24 hours ago by himself

But we didn't just trade for JR. We also added Shumpert and a 1st rd pick. How can those can be excluded when commenting on a mob "all aboard" mentality regarding the trade. How can the added depth on a team that desperately need active players at SG be ignored. Miller and Jones are on/off 1 way players. They can't be depended on as starters or heavy rotation guys. Shumpert and JR fill two spots to Dion one and provide many complementary aspects next to our three stars that Dion couldn't or didn't want to.

J.R Smith is like a fine line that is everything wrong and everything right with the world. Put in the right situation he can be a blessing put in the wrong one he can be a hell gate ect. I am a odd mix of excited and sick to watch him play for our team.

You are one of the most straight forward posters on this board who uses perfect logic to explain wacky situations. I can't add much to this post other than. Like you said he can fill the big minutes shoes, He has an edge unlike any player I know and it is going to be fun to watch this guy. Finally and this has me laughing already is Carr commenting on Smith during games. Oh god this should be fun.

Regarding the bolded, I didn't say anything about the trade.

Hypothetically, are you saying that yesterday you would've given JR Smith a positive outlook as a potential trade piece?

Yes? I doubt it...
No? That's my point.

Everything else you're talking about, which is fine and dandy, but is tangential to my point. That point being the board can be pretty fickle regarding who is good and who isn't.

Now all of a sudden, JR Smith is a baller...? Not saying you're saying this but many are... So.. Cool beans I guess... lol

Lmao.. I've got friends from New York hitting me up straight laughing...

This team can either be really good or turn into a dumpster fire really quickly. Folks pinning their hopes on an injured Shumpert and JR fucking Smith are really setting themselves up for heartbreak.

You must have some pretty ballsy friends given the current state of affairs in New York right now...

You all thought Dion was a chucker...just wait.

This.

Couple that with the fact that this guy is 10x the headcase Dion is.... jeeze....

If someone told me who would you rather have Larry The Lunatic Sanders or JR Fucking Smith, I'd have said shoot me.. but if I gotta pick, I'll take Sanders.

Uhh.. if you haven't noticed the Cavaliers are playing like ass.

Misery loves company.

Now all of a sudden, we should be looking at the positives of JR Smith?

Your friends in New York have a five win basketball team. They are hanging their hope on 30 million in cap space and a top 5 pick. Who cares about them..

Additionally, I wasn't critical of you.

And lastly, the question you ask me is not relevant to the totality of the trade.

We didn't trade Dion Waiters for JR Smith. So I really have no way to appropriately answer your hypothetical question.

I'll try anyways. If yesterday, you PM'd me and said "what do think about us trading Dion Waiters for JR Smith straight up"? of course I would have said "bad move. dont do it"

But if you would have PM'd yesterday and said " do you believe that JR Smith can have a positive impactful role as a 6th man on a playoff team with its stars already in place" I'd have given it some though and said "absolutely"

And then again to extend it to the full details of the trade, it becomes even that much easier for me.

And now truly finally, you are a great poster on this board. But your NYC friends texting you, I could care less about them or what they have to say and would take the current state of Cleveland Sports in 2015 over the current state of New York sports in 2015 even though they have twice as many teams.

Uhh.. if you haven't noticed the Cavaliers are playing like ass.

I like the quote...but I'd prefer to be 19 and 16 right now as opposed to 5 and 32.

I get it.."Knicks are in rebuild mode, Cavs are in win now mode, etc etc"...But like I said, you'd have to be a really ballsy knick fan to be laughing at the Cavs right now

People aren't pinning their hopes on those two.

They are suggesting that those two fit better and provide more depth and better fit around a healthy LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving.

Not to mention the additional 1st round pick we gained for a subsequent trade.

MirORich, I gotta say... I don't think anyone would've said yesterday that JR Smith would be a positive influence on a playoff team.

I just.. don't know how you'd have come to that conclusion?

And again, I'm not evaluating the trade in it's totality here, nor am I being critical of you.

Rather, I'm being critical of JR Smith -- who deserves tremendous criticism -- he is not an unknown as you yourself have said.

I'm also being critical of David Griffin who is really demonstrating that he has little to no patience to develop a winner the right way.

We keep blowing our wad on these short-term trades; all of which are pretty big gambles.

And when they don't pan out, then we say "don't bitch about it, it's over and done with." Look at how much shit folks get for bringing up Wiggins or Drummond or JV...

Cavs front office is not inspiring me with confidence.

The bolded says it all..

And for the record, they aren't mocking us. They are just elated with the trade.
