Did Koby Altman nail the rebuild?

4/80 is the most I am willing to go with Allen. Pay him for what he has shown and a little wiggle room for what he may be able to do soon. I like him a lot and I think we can get him for that, but at this point he is a tier 4, maybe low tier 3 center. And I don't view his upside beyond a mid-high tier 3 guy (~ 10th best center in the league). The thing is, if you can get similar production from a guy near the vet min (WCS, Noel, Dwight for example), it is not worth it to splooge on JA. The center position has been devalued a lot in recent years and when we are a playoff team, Allen will probably be watching the closing of some games from the bench.

He might be the best C since 07 big Z, but I don't really care if he asks for too much money, SnT or let him walk. Now, if we get Mobley, I think our need to sign Allen increases a lot. Mobley is too small to bang full time rn. I mean even Bam and AD play the 4 til its go time. A Mobley/Allen front court is terrfying defensively and we can go "small" with Mobley the way the Lakers go small with AD, a 7 foot switchable rim protector on D who plays like a wing on the other end. Devastating. And if we decide to go large, we would have not one, not two, but three really long shot blockers in the front court. Sick.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but I'm still not following how paying up for JA makes MORE sense if we were to get Mobley. Wouldn't the cheaper replacement argument hold just as much water if we are fortunate enough to have Mobley? Especially if Mobley gives us the option of going small, which would mean we would pull Allen or whoever we sign to replace him off the floor.

The main thing is we cannot make Mobley our starting center in year 1...or possibly ever. He might be the closing center but he needs a body who can bang next to him. The ideal candidate for that role would be someone like a young Javale McGee, but I don't think anyone like that will be an FA this offseason or soon that we could sign (as much as I want Richaun Holmes). I like Hart but he is more of a high post center, who also could pair well with Mobley but also is somewhat redundant with him. Allen is the most available and convenient option in my mind. And given that Jarrett Allen is already a top 15ish center, I think giving him 16-20m a year is totally fair for the next few seasons.

Mobley as a center is Nerlen Noel 2.0, who would get bounced around like a pin ball the way the Pistons Isaiah Stewart manhandled Jarrett Allen last year. Mobley physically looks soft as Brad Sellers. Same frail body and game built on finesse. Skills are very intriguing but have a hard time believing he holds up physically

Mobley has those skinny pins. I mean like Manute thick.

I think it's important for Koby to keep open communication with Allen's agent on this. Koby shouldn't be surprised by Allen signing an offer sheet. A open dialogue of if Allen wants to be here and how we can come to an agreement that works for both of side, I think is real important.

If he is going to get 25 million a year, we might want to offer him something like 27 million a year for 3 years instead of taking the risk of 125 over 5 years.
Only in today’s NBA can an average talent in his profession balk at being paid $25 million annually as insulting.

For fucks sake, more crying because I am skeptical of JA's upside at this point in his career.

I argued what his value was and how I view him as a solid contributor, but not a cornerstone piece of a team.

I mocked you because you kept commenting like I ran over your dog with sarcastic whiny jab after another. Asking us if JA fucked our sisters isn't you crying?

Grow a set.

He tries to play physical, tries to make room with his body...again reminiscent of TT...he just doesn't have the girth.

In that pic of him next to Steven Adams, Adams' arms were about twice the size of Mobley's legs.

To be fair Adams is about as stout as they come for a big man. Damn near everyone else looks skinny next to him.

To be sure, Mobley is very thin. But there's differences in guys with thin builds. Kevin Garnett was very thin but he was also strong as hell, and he knew how to play with leverage. . OTOH guys like Manute Bol are tall but can't get leverage so those guys have to go over the top of everything which reduces their height & reach advantage. Durant is more this kind of player but his quickness and agility is off the charts for his length.

Where Mobley falls in that spectrum remains to be seen for me. At first glance he looks like a guy who will have to get by going over the top with reach and height at least at first. Can he learn to get position and play with leverage like Garnett used to remains to be seen. Mobley also looks like he might trend more towards the Durant type in terms of agility for his length. And hopefully he can move that direction in terms of skill sets as well.

I just hope we get the guy.

Who said Allen balked at being paid $25 million annually?
A general statement based on NBA beat writers assessment of Allen’s market value, which was my point about how ridiculous NBA salaries have become.

When I made this thread, I had Kevin Porter Jr. in mind. He, in my mind, was key in having a chance to make the playoffs.

Altman has made up for it big time. First, he got Allen for peanuts. Now, he drafts what many are calling "the closest thing to AD since AD himself".

I think he's trending in the right direction. I like the Ricky Rubio trade, we could use a floor general like him. I'm glad he made that trade.

Perhaps the fact that we got him for so cheap would make it easier to let him walk in that case? I don't agree with that line of thinking, since a sunk cost should be treated as such, but unfortunately these things still have a tendency to influence decisions on the future.

Yup, I factored that in already -- we're talking about our cap space for the 2022-23 season right? Our #3 pick this year is estimated to make $7,065,600 in the 2022-23 season (his 2nd year) according to this link at RealGM.

According to this HoopsHype link, on the books for that season are Love (28.94), LNJ (9.67), Osman (7.43), Garland's team option (8.92), Okoro's team option (7.04), Wade (1.93), Stevens (1.78), Kabengele (1.85), 2021 #3 pick (7.07) on the books, adding up to $74,628,959, with a projected salary cap of $115,662,992, giving us $41,034,033 of projected cap space before extending Allen. I'm a big proponent of trying to agree to a buyout with Love right now so we can put all of the money he gives back over the next two years toward our 2022-23 payroll (not sure if this is legal or not, to be honest -- with a multiyear buyout, do we get to choose how to allocate the savings over the duration of his contract?)

If we can get Jarrett extended with a 2022-23 salary of $20 mil, and get Love to agree to give back $10 mil in a buyout, then we'd still have over $31 mil in cap space, minus our draft picks next year along with the other guys we sign to fill out our roster.

And by the way, can anyone here tell me why HoopsHype is showing Garland and Okoro to both be up for their team options the same year? Was there a chance in how rookie contracts were structured in between their respective draft classes?
Can’t believe Cedi is making 7M a year. ‍♂️

Agreee! I mean, fucking Tristan Thompson got $16m/year years ago (2015/16 I think) and Allen is clearly the better player with a higher ceiling + general inflation.

Yeah but Tristan took advantage of a situation where we had no cap to sign another big without Bird years. So he held out for months until Griffen finally caved and was forced to pay up. In no world was he worth 16 mil
