The Cleveland Indians are looking to trade shortstop Francisco Lindor.AP

By Mike Rosenstein | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Sure, why not?

A new club has entered the mix in trade talks for Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor. Per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi:

“Sources: Reds are prioritizing the addition of one starting shortstop and are pursuing multiple options to address that need: Francisco Lindor and Trevor Story in trade; Marcus Semien, Andrelton Simmons, and Didi Gregorius via free agency.”

Lindor is the best shortstop on the market. He’s a four-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger Award recipient. The 27-year-old could make close to $20 million in arbitration this winter and will be a free agent following the 2021 season.

Both the New York Yankees and New York Mets have been linked to Lindor. If the Yankees are serious about trading for Lindor, it could mean moving Gleyber Torres back to second base. At that point, the Yankees can move DJ LeMahieu (if he re-signs) to first base and look to trade Luke Voit. Or they can just let LeMahieu walk and keep Voit at first.

As for the Mets, the are expected to make a splash this winter under the leadership of new owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson. Look for them to walk away with at least two of the A-list players available this winter: Lindor, LeMahieu, J.T. Realmuto, George Springer and Trevor Bauer.

I'd disagree with the Tribe waiting for the Lindor trade to be consummated before making a deal.. There is a very good likelihood that a Cookie deal and a JRam deal will fill the roster nicely... enough to give the CLEFO the belief that going for it in 2021 would include having Frankie at SS for the entire season. The CLEFO may also be of the opinion that they will have a better chance to KEEP Frankie if he stays through the 2021 season, the tribe has a parade down Euclid culminating with a turn south on East 9th... and the pandemic means the eleven SS's will be picked from all the teams that have NO $$$$$ to buy high end SS's the next 10 years including Frankie. Under that situation.. Frankie may Bauer his next deal.. a one year mega-AAV deal that "any team" can afford..

Thoughts?...
If the Indians trade Ramirez and Carrasco, there will be no parade down Euclid. There will be no parade to the ticket office by fans.

Why do people keep wanting to trade us catchers? Aren't Perez and Hedges solid enough for now?

Well, defensively, yes, they're both excellent. But, the offensive production we received last year from the catching position was beyond abysmal and there's a good chance that Hedges gets non-tendered later today. Toronto is absolutely loaded with catchers both in the big leagues and upper minor-leagues, so I fully expect the Indians to get back one of their catchers if Lindor ends up being dealt there.

Probably because neither catcher can hit much over .200. Don't know much about Kirk other than he appears to be the most out of shape catcher in baseball.

Kirk can really hit. Like really really really fucking hit. More walks than strikeouts is my all-time favorite statistic for prospects (check my post history, it's literally what got me on the Jose hype train when everyone thought he sucked and I was crazy) and Kirk's done it at every level in the minors. Had more hits than swings and misses on fastballs this year in the MLB. Small sample but, for a guy who hadn't played above A+, that's really impressive.

But he's also 5'7" and 265 lbs.

Honestly, I'm intrigued but we haven't seen anything like him before at the MLB level.

If we didn't have Naylor, I'd probably have more interest in Kirk. Indians have been all-in on Naylor as the future catcher and devoted a lot of resources to his development. His defense is now at a point where he's firmly a catcher going forward and possibly a legit star in the future. Personally, I think he's criminally underrated.

The issue is also that Kirk can't play anywhere other than C or DH. Too slow for any other position and too short for 1B. Really love the bat though.

Absolutely not! If you want McKenzie with Lindor then the price will be a lot steeper than that. They would essentially be getting McKenzie for a 17 yr old SS that wouldn't even be in our top 20 and a 29 yr old RHP that hasn't made it to the majors yet due to injuries. No f'n way! Replace Castro with Groshans and Merryweather with Kloffenstein and we may have a deal. We don't need or have to trade McKenzie and he has regained his top prospect status at this point. Hell, most would argue that he is worth more than Lindor so my suggestion may not be enough. WTF are these guys smokin' to suggest such crazy offers?

Respectfully, you completely glossed over Simeon Woods Richardson, a legit top pitching prospect, and focused on what would amount to "depth" additions in the other two. Gurriel and SWR would be the players being targeted.

My guess is if the Indians move McKenzie, they believe they're selling high due to durability concerns.

Some peeps don't like the money due to the catchers, 5.5 mil to Perez and about 3 mil to Hedges. Both are gold glove though catchers so no issues in a defensive minded first catching organization like the Indians. Both are not the best hitters overall and can be streaky and inconsistent. With the Indians not getting production from the OF nor the C position in 2020, it put the guys in a spotlight. (Sad part is Plawecki had a good season as a backup catcher). Leon left in free agency so that and Beau Taylor is the only other catcher on the roster, who isn't a great catcher overall.

The biggest reason I personally want a catcher back, is because the Indians have probably the worst depth in catching of any organization in baseball. They guys they have drafted, outside of Naylor, have almost all flopped at catching. They haven't found anyone in the international market for catching that is a big leaguer (the Indians are very good at international scouting though overall). The one catcher who did have some promise got taken from A ball by the Rockies like 5 year ago (Wolters). They have drafted around 12 catchers since the 14 draft, none have played above AA. Indians acquired about 4-5 catchers last off season to fill in the depth at AA and AAA and will have to do so probably again.

Indians likely don't have to get a top prospect catcher since they have Naylor, but they do need one who could be Naylor's partner back there going forward. If Hedges does get non-tendered, I wouldn't be 100% surprised to see them use a Rule 5 pick on a catcher (I know I would) but they aren't an organization who uses the Rule 5 a lot.

If th..... There will be no parade to the ticket office by fans.
You mean, like normal... no change.. withholding going to the games isn't predicated on the success or failure of the team.. nor is it predicated on IF cookie/Jram/Lindor stay.. Fans stay away in droves because that's their choice.. and they have NO MESSAGE from any alternate source (local media) to support the efforts of the club to draw fans..

Go to one of several St Louis Cardinal media sites..and compare.. what a difference... the best thing local media can do to help the Indians business efforts is what they're doing.. putting their "alleged" content behind a pay wall.. good for the fans because they won't buy...

Don't disagree that a C is needed at all. All the more reason to call the Dodgers and see what they would offer for Ramirez. If Smith or Ruiz can be part of the return do you do it if the other parts are desired as well?

Uhhh, no I didn't gloss over anything. The proposed deal was a 4 for 2 suggestion. Those 4 were Guirriel Jr, Woods Richardson, DeCastro, and Merryweather. There is no f'n way I'm giving up McKenzie for DeCastro and Merryweather because Guirriel Jr and Woods Richardson are what's it's going to take to get Lindor. I'd prefer Frazier and Gil to them anyway and I'm sure the Yankees would gladly give them and another piece just to keep Lindor out of the Blue Jays hands.

McKenzie is arguably worth more than Lindor at this time and if he's not then I'm damn sure not dealing him when his value is low. He was a top 10 RHP prospect before his injury. He returned with a vengeance and performed superbly in 2020. His stock has never been higher IMO so Toronto can keep their #17 prospect and the 29 yr old relief pitcher whose injury history is worse than McKenzie's. Good Lord! I can't believe I have to explain that to any Tribe fan.

Merryweather was going to be in the pros before he had Tommy John and even at 29, if he's still a top prospect in any system, scouts must like him. Now I get at the end of the day, he needs to kind of be in the package like we felt Hedges was and not a main person in the deal.
