He has a chance to be the first player since Marshall Faulk to rush for 1,000 and receive for 1,000..
As a rookie....
He's a damn good athlete and an explosive weapon. If you go back through my posts for the past year, you'll never find me saying otherwise.
Similar to how Reggie Bush went #2, Saquon is similar in skill set. The unique thing is he's actually big enough to sustain more carries than Bush ever was, which is why he was a prospect people were drooling over.
The question was if he's a bull-dozing, tough-yard-getting, bell cow of a running back. The most common comparison we've seen on these boards for this style of back is Zeke Elliott. He's the gold standard when we picture a "churn them out, hard-nosed, drive carrying" back--and he's complete as he will block his ass off as well.
The answer is, Saquon is not that despite being 230 pounds. And that's ok. He's something entirely different--and he's still a great football player. Again--he's similar in running style to how Reggie Bush liked to probe. He tries to bounce everything with his top gear and he spends a lot of time going laterally. He's not necessarily elite between the tackles, but he's elite in space. That's evidenced by how many negative plays he takes. Sure, it's hard to base much on the offensive line he has in New York, but the same things were happening at Penn State.
He's special in the sense that when he gets on the outside, and gets in space, he's a weapon. Was he a weapon worthy of going high in the draft? Of course he was.
This post is a yikes from you
The way you throw down 1000/1000 as the end of the argument without noting the tendencies of his running style really gives the impression that you don't actually watch the games.
It's like looking at stats and saying "Shaq was one hell of a shooter" because he has all those points. Shaq was a hell of a basketball player, but he didn't accomplish it by having an elite stroke.
All of these things aren't mutually exclusive. Saying that Barkley is different does not mean he isn't a good football player.
This seems like the wrong thread to hash this out all over again.
Thus, I am stopping right now.
