Time valuation is also very different in areas of the country. I know people in Texas who don't think a four hour drive is that long of a drive.
That's fair. Hadn't thought of that.

Personally, anything over 30 minutes is a fucking chore :chuckle:

Regardless, I think it's clear that Portland and Nashville would be great places for expansion teams.

You were being condescending directly toward me, but don’t worry, I don’t hold grudges. Moving along.

I still think the Naps would be a good name. It has historical significance, and I’m not sure why it matters if anyone has seen him play.

I just don’t think what the actual name is will matter from a marketing/ticket sales aspect. Most baseball logos are just the team name in a script font with a baseball involved anyways :chuckle:

Nobody seems to care that there are no lakes in LA or music in Utah.

You could name a team the Dirty Diapers and people would show up in bunches if they made the playoffs.

I just haven’t seen any evidence that the name of the team has any tangible impact.

That's actually what I thought of when you said The Naps, made me think of Nappies (what the British call Diapers).
Couple that w/ the CLE Browns and we have quite a theme going on.

@bob2the2nd

For the Portland, where would you put the baseball stadium in your mind?

In Nashville, if you could get near Nissan Stadium, that looks like a good access overall.

I know part of the reason Tampa struggles with attendance, is where they built the stadium. I have family there and its very difficult to get to the games from North of Tampa. So where a location for a stadium also matters as well.

Instead of all teams with indians nicknames changing names. Set up a fund where $1 for each ticket sold goes to a college education fund for native american families
Turn a perceived negative into a positive. I never got any kind of racism from any of these sports teams. I think they are a remembrance of those people. Once nicknames are gone so will there memory to many people. Out of sight out of mind.

It always felt like from reports the Native Americans didn't mind the teams using the names and i have suggested before to find logos and whatnot that the Native Americans agree on and some of the proceeds from sales and whatnot support at least local tribes. That's going too political probably from this section of the forum, but why not help out the community?

i proposed somethign similar in the politics thread concerning this.

That said I do like the idea of a logo that represents native americans, While i know some people like the script I or C or whatever letter, i do feel like there should be a logo

If we stay the Indians, in due time I would love something to replace Chief Wahoo in the right way. Now what exactly, I am not sure since it feels like anything we do nowadays will upset someone.

Sadly I think in due time we will have a name change, but the question is can the public somehow have a say?

Expansion is a non-starter until a COVID vaccine is widely available and effective. Hard to expand when no revenues coming in from game attendance.

Have to imagine expansion will be part of the next CBA, so it will be bit...

Nashville just built a new minor league baseball stadium for the Sounds 4 years ago, and from what I've heard it isn't a stadium they can do much with in terms of expanding and putting in more seats. Plus they are in the process of building the new MLS stadium, and they almost lost that team due to stadium funding disputes before they even played a game.

Nashville looks good on paper, but after living there for 4 years I just don't think it will support an MLB team that well. But on the other hand it can't do much worse than Tampa, Miami, or Pittsburgh, so what the hell?

I think Nashville is even better... you'd be bringing a team to the entire state of Tennessee, whose closest teams right now are Atlanta, Cincinnati, and St. Louis.

Plus there's a large portion of Portland that isn't into the major American sports, plus the ones who do often identify with Seattle's teams.

With all due respect, after living in Seattle for many years, no one should be a fan of the Mariners, least of all the SumpfDeutch that infest the Portland area.

In the Volcano.

It would be awesome.

Everyone should visit Portland at least once.

It is like living in an alternate version of America.
