The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After having watched the first two, it seems like the thought behind this trilogy was the same as that behind the Ghostbusters remake. Retell the same basic story with different actors for...reasons.

Really, really glad the Mandalorian came along, and very much looking forward to Kenobi.

I do truly believe that the Skywalker Saga is fully tapped out.

They need a time hop and a totally different story. The Star Wars galaxy has a really long shelf life when you can create a new story

If you aren't going to see it, that definitely makes sense. I'm just saying for people that plan to see it, I wouldn't want anything to be revealed as to not judge it without even seeing it. Because the execution within the movie might be better than you think.

For example, I can actually understand how it sounds bad if you just know the main plot points without actually seeing it. But the way it was executed made me feel a lot of emotion. I still stand on that it was a great movie. I actually have the desire to see it again. Which for me, that never happens. I'll see a movie once and I'm good. But a lot of the moments of raw power they displayed were really cool. The connection between Rey and Kylo is also one of the cooler things I've seen in all of Star Wars.

I think one of the problems people have is that it isn't as original as it could be. I can understand that. But a lot of the core elements of Star Wars are just fun to see that I wouldn't take for granted. I love hearing the music. I love seeing the new creatures and planets. They did a great job of putting in cool things I've never seen before in this movie.
Appreciate your opinion on this matter. I feel the same way about Interstellar. People shit on it. But I have a strong emotional attachment to that movie it just hits me in the right way. The soundtrack, the acting, the characters etc etc. So I understand what you're saying and I'm glad you found that movie for you.

Watched the spoiler youtube someone posted. Haven't seen the movie but I will this weekend most likely.. that being said...

Why choose to name the movie Rise of Skywalker?

Yeah, I was actually wondering about that. They theoretically could continue a story with Rey, but I don't know where it would go. Where do they go with the future of the franchise? What do you do without Jedi and Sith? With balance/peace being restored, someone making the attempt to go against it and another bad guy rising up just turns into the same story all over again.

Unless they want to make movies in the old timelines of Jedi and Sith but just with completely different people in totally different parts of the galaxy or something.

Luke's ghost got a boner?

No it’s the color of the crystal they use.

According to new canon, it also partially mastering the crystal through the force.

Jedi and the light side result in blue, green or yellow. And purple rarely as Mace walked the line between light and dark with his singular connection to the force. Rebels.

Yellow was traditionally the color of the Jedi Temple Guards. The color used by the Grand Inquisitor when he was a Jedi. CW, Rebels

However, Ashoka Tano rejected the Jedi philosophy and purged her crystals to a white color in Rebels.

Sith impose the Dark Side on their crystal, causing it to bleed red as opposed to the old canon in which Sith created synthetic crystals.

First and foremost, how the fuck was the lightsaber back after being shattered in half at the end of episode 8? Just complete ignorance on the part of JJ there.

Palpatine returning DOES kill everything that happened in the OT and render it worthless. Rey’s heritage didn’t bother me at all though. how the fuck did the guy get the technology to instill A STAR DESTROYING WEAPON on Star destroyers, and where did he gather all of this following from? Its just an asinine idea going from building two Death Stars to now having the ability to manufacture hundreds upon hundreds of ships that can destroy a planet on their own. That was so lame.

What’s to stop him from just resurrecting again? It simple doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Same with Fin somehow being able to feel the force like a Jedi.

Just far too many wtf moments for me in this one. Wasn’t a fan.

It is interesting that those ships didn't have the firepower to destroy planets on their own already.

Hand in ANH said it would take a 1000 ships with more firepower than he [something].

In Star Trek, a single starship since Kirk's time could destroy a planet, although it was only ever done once (The Romulan/Cardassian rogue intelligence agencies' Preemptive and Decapitation Strike on the Dominion) dead planets have no worth to a conquering force.

A Star Destroyer is more than twice the size of the Galaxy Class seen in TNG.

Abbrams has a hard on for planet destroying and I hope both he and this franchise will finally fucking stop it.

Feel like the movie has so much going on its hard to cover everything, so I'll just post my impressions: Didn't hate it. Most flawed of the new trilogy. Still above the prequels.

Of the saga films, to me:

1) ROTJ (hard to overcome my childhood nostalgia & throne room duel is tops)
2) Empire
3) Star Wars
4) The Last Jedi (not getting into it)
5) The Force Awakens
6) Rise of Skywalker
7/8/9) Prequels... wanna rewatch at some point, because there's a lot of bad in there but don't really recall which I like the most, probably Phantom Menace since I was the youngest when it came out

If I only read about the plot points in this movie I too would think it is laughable. However I avoided all the spoilers before seeing it which definitely helped with the enjoyment.

In regards to Papa Palpatine being alive, look he made Snoke. He had a clone army at one point. I imagine the interest in the force sensitive child in the Mandalorian might have something to do with keeping Palpatine alive.

I really won't complain. Palpatine enjoys being evil so goddamn much that I can't help but enjoy every time he's on the screen. And Star Wars is really just wizards in space.

I don't know where this movie will ultimately end up in the Star Wars rankings. I'll put it safely behind the original 3, but I guess I enjoyed it?

I didn't walk out feeling angry like I did with TLJ. So maybe my sheer hatred of TLJ is clouding my view.

Everything else aside, absolutely hilarious that after Abrams took so much shit for doing another Death Star and he still couldn’t help himself from making an impossibly large fully manned fleet of them for this one.

Saw a tweet about going in wanting to hate and you will.

didnt, and thought it was the best of the three. Scoring was fucking awesome.
