To start: JRam has massive (nearly unmatched) surplus value. Good luck finding a fair match in return.Wait until the all star break and then make the call. To me it will be a much sadder day when this happens in comparison to the Lindor trade. Lindor smiling and laughing with a base runner on second base was just one of things that pissed me off. Ramirez would never pull that shit. Jose was not given a damn thing and then turned himself into a tremendous all around 5 tool player.
But the massive return awaiting makes the idea worth looking at. Targeting a title in 2024 might be the way to go.

Additionally the idea of a massive return is fools gold. Many felt there would be a massive returns with major league ready talent for Bauer/ Clevinger (guys with more than 1 yr of control remaining), but look at what the Tribe got in return. On top of that with the upcoming roster crunch at the end of the year, adding more guys creates more problems..
The lack of a minor leagues season in 2020 might have slowed the development of some Tribe prospects but guys like Tyler Freeman/ Gabriel Arias/ Owen Miller are right around the corner. This is a time to be patient & stay the course...
A name to keep an eye on is Michael Harris, who is an OF prospect in Atlanta. He has received a ton of hype among scouts with the team down there to the point that he’s viewed by some as a potential superstar.Open the bidding at a premium OF, preferably CF. Add in the typical Indians “choice” of mid level, high upside that fit with the organizational philosophy.
If you find the right match, nothing should be off the table this deadline unless this team flat out steamrolls through the first half.
Which, if I’m being honest, doesn’t strike me as something that’s in the cards.
Elite OF prospects:
Christian Pache
Dylan Carlson
Julio Rodriguez/Jared Kelenic
Any of those three teams could be looking to make a big time move. They don’t need to move him, but I’d consider it if those names are included.
Hoo-boy. The hubris of humans.Targeting a title in 2024 might be the way to go.
Wait, you said the idea of a massive return is "fools gold" and then when on to say that Arias and Miller are "right around the corner". The Clevinger deal was a haul and the Bauer deal was a good one too. There is no doubt that Ramirez would net a return better than both of those, but now is not the time to even discuss it IMO. As we get closer to the break there will be a better understanding of what this team is or isn't capable of.To start: JRam has massive (nearly unmatched) surplus value. AZ, I can't say I disagree with you here. My only thing is that I would use this season to see if either Johnson and/or Rosario are that premium CFer. They have the physical talent for sure, but we know it takes more than just talent.Open the bidding at a premium OF, preferably CF. Speaking of Amed. The Tatis Jr. injury has me wondering if another deal with the Padres could happen. I don't know their depth at SS or what Chernoff would want in return. The thought just crossed my mind and there may be some interest.I would wait at least until after this season, mainly because we'll have a much better idea of where our prospects are at. There was no minor league season last year but there will be this year. We need to know which prospects are ready to play in 2022. For example, if Nolan Jones, Owen Miller, Tyler Freeman, and Arias tear it up in the minors this year it will be a lot easier to trade Jose and make a spot for one of them.
If Bauers, Bradley or Naylor takes over and produces at first base then we don't need to try and get a first baseman in the package. If Amed Rosario turns into a great defensive centerfielder (or at least gets part way there) and hits .280/.800, then we don't need a centerfielder.
We might end up moving him for a blue chip starter and a catcher. I'm not thrilled about putting all our eggs in Bo Naylor's basket, although he's looking pretty good right now.
I'm just saying that after this season we'll have a much better idea of what our needs are going forward.
If we're not in contention this year I could see trading E. Rosario and/or Cesar Hernandez, especially Hernandez. Trading both would save Dolen about $7 million and open up spots for Owen Miller and Daniel Johnson to get extended trials so we know what to expect going into 2022.
Ahmed Rosario would be another trade possibility, especially if he can play both SS and CF. I don't see Hosey being moved until next winter at the earliest.
Manny Machado was a pretty fair SS in his younger days... like in 2020... They also have CJ Abrams who they can install as their everyday SS if they want to take a chance.. The Padres also have this venezuelan kid Tucupita Marcano.. IDK how good he might be or become.. but is well thought of by many of the scouting profile writers..Speaking of Amed. In short.. desperation by the Padres..isn't there.. Greed is, though.. and the Padres, like many other teams would love to acquire him.. As far as the return from the Padres, both of the guys listed above would be a nice starting point.. Add in some mixture of: a catcher, an arm and, of course.. an OF'er and the making of a deal could be considered.. however unlikely..
