2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only potential marriage of both would seem to be Minnesota, which is pretty interesting given Stefanski's familiarity with those players.

It sounds like the Vikes desperately want cap space, so there may be an opportunity, if the FO wants it, to plug several holes in a multi player trade.

It does, however, seem more counterintuitive to how the FO has operated. Next year is probably the year you forgo draft capital to chase hole plugging vets but maybe the org feels better about this team than I think.

With the Browns cap situation, I would imagine Minnesota would now be angling to unload someone like Theilen as part of a deal for defensive help. That is potentially the one unfortunate aspect of the OBJ inury, is that a team like Minnesota is now going to try to likely use that as a leverage point in negotiations for any of the defensive players we may have been interested in.

Would Thielen be that bad?

He has an out in his contract for 5.4 million in dead cap next year. That's not horrible. He's familiar with the offensive concepts too.

I'm just spitballing here because I know something like this is insanely unlikely.

Any major move at WR makes no sense. Once Chubb is back, play Hunt more at WR and play more 3 TE sets. We could use a speedy WR, but doesn’t need to be someone that plays a lot.

I’d like to trade for Harrison Smith. He’s be a great asset as a player and a leader. Our safety situation is a mess with injuries and inexperience. I would think Smith’s prescense would huge for the whole defense, especially the secondary.

He’s a UFA after 2021 and is on a reasonable salary so we wouldn’t be committing to money long-term. If our young guys develop we just let him walk. We might still look at safety in the draft, but this would lesson the immediate need.

That number isn't what you think it is. It is percentage of total team plays. Not percentage of HIS snaps.

Cooks had 297 snaps this season heading in to this week.

157 of them were in the slot. So 53% were deemed slot snaps.

20 of his 27 catches were in the slot - 74%
262 of his 367 yards were in the slot - 72%
86 of his 112 YAC yards were in the slot - 76%

The guy is a slot receiver. Not sure why we are having this debate here.

Sure, put him outside if you want.......he's likely not going to do anything helpful.
Even if Houston is using him in the slot this year, Brandin Cooks is not just a slot receiver.

If you have to go back to his numbers from the Rams, Patriots, or Saints, go take a look.

However, we're not going out to get him. I love his talent, but the guy is one concussion away from retirement. That's just not a gamble you take right now.

The one really intriguing guy is Michael Gallup.

I still believe he is a good young player but he's been frozen out by the surprise availability of Lamb......and I would imagine he's the odd man out contract wise.

He seems like the type of player the Browns would consider more meaningful value for......who could be unlocked in a bigger role and possibly replace one of our higher priced receivers.
Hadnt even thought of Gallup but I would LOVE to get him here.

Of course if we're making any moves I hope the first 3 are on defense. But strictly talking offense, this would be a great move for the right price.

Another guy who I'm willing to bet is available, although the cost would probably be too prohibitive for us, is Mike Evans. Evans has basically been a forgotten man this year when Godwin has been healthy and the team is about to sign Antonio Brown.

Yeah, I have no idea what he would cost......but he seems like the one true boom candidate to me.

Where he can potentially be had for a reasonable price, you get him on a rookie scale deal through 2021 and he gives the team that young, bigger deep threat we lack.

If the Browns could get him for something like a 3rd or 4th rounder.......I think he is potentially the sneaky good acquisition that is out there at receiver. I'm less excited about other players but think he is a victim of circumstance here and could be a breakout player if given a larger role and a fresh start.

My preference is improving the defense but if the price is right on a young player like Gallup, with OBJ going down, I'd really think long and hard about it.

Are there any legitimately good slot WR potentially available? If we’re going to spend any amount of money or assets on a WR, maybe finding a guy that is a great slot WR would be better? We aren’t going to replace OBJ without giving up something fairly significant in a trade and/or taking on a bunch of money. Don’t know who could potentially be available, but I think this could help us more this year AND long-term with the right guy.

I wonder if the Jets would move Jamison Crowder? He’s kind of the perfect guy for that situation. Is a UFA after next season so’d we’d be able to move on if needed.

Is Jarvis Landry out for the year too?

I really think if we're giving up any assets at the trade deadline this season it has to be for Defensive help. Baker is at his best when he's distributing to the TEs and 3-4 WRs and i think we'll be ok once Chubb and Hooper get healthy. Maybe add a cheap WR but no one expensive.

I am married to a Texans fan.

I would be absolutely floored if JJ Watt played for another team in his career. He loves Houston, and Houston loves him. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, he raised tens of millions of dollars for people that were impacted.

He is a fixture in that community and will probably have a statue outside NRG Stadium whenever he decides to call it quits.

100's of millions, but who is counting. And yes, JJ Watt is a good human being.

With Hodge set to return and Hooper eventually coming back (which can in turn slide Bryant and/or Njoku into the slot as necessary), I just don't think the Browns really need another WR that badly.

I think they can get by with what they have for now.

If they are going to make a trade, I'd rather it come on defense with literally any position - DE, DT, MLB, OLB, CB, SS, FS - on the table as a potential option.

I'm flabbergasted that anyone can look at this team and believe that another WR should head our deadline shopping list. We've got two young guys in DPJ and Harrison who need more snaps, so why not give them a shot?

The defense is a complete disaster, and there is no reason to let trade assets in the form of players or picks burn a hole in our pocket. If there aren't any suitable defensive targets at the deadline, then save the assets for the offseason, and improve the defense then.

As much as I hate to say it, doesn’t JJ Watt to the Steelers sound like a very Pittsburgh move? Pair him with his brother and load up for one more Super Bowl run with Ben? That Fitzpatrick trade they made last year has worked out really well. Maybe this is the same type of move?

I don't think hey would consider it. They have enough pass rushers and defensive lineman. They probably wouldn't give up the necessary value when Watt doesn't fill a real need for them other than a feel good story.

A better story would be us getting Watt for a decent compensation and keeping him from going to PIT.
