2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's a post in the 2019 draft thread where I talk about this and how I have never seen it from someone so young. I was confused why he was being rated so low, and said we should consider him at 5. The space he generates even in the crowded paint is pretty amazing. I was completely on board getting 15-20 pick and using it on him.

I want to get another defensive wing, and then I think we have a pretty high defensive upside.
I remember this because I thought of the same thing on his defense and why he was rated so low. Thought he was raw but has talent on both offense and defense. Really wanted a wing who can bring a threat on both sides. I just did not like the staff at USC in how they utilized him or more like they did not like him.

I know I'm bubbling over with enthusiasm lately, but with a lottery pick in the draft, Wiindler joining the team next year, and the glowing reports about Dean Wade in the G-League, we may be OK by next
I am very optimistic as well. Losing tt would be a loss. Would like to bring him back on a fair deal. Love him off the bench
Would like too see wade get some nba mins this year
Drummond was a steal by koby. We will have a 28 million dollar expiring to dangle next year
Also think koby hit on all three draft choices and probably windler as well

I was thinking maybe we could package up Garland and Cedi and try to get a better player to fit into our future. I know it's still a bit soon to determine what Garland may become but with Cedi we kind of know what we got. I don't dislike either guy but we should consider every angle.

Looking at the Clippers vs Rockets game last night. It makes you wish the Cavs had a defense like the Clippers...

Way to early on garland
I like cedi. He is on a good deal. Would be very effective off the bench imo but right now we got no onr better. Would like cedi and garland off bench next year if we find a wing

I'm not sure how much value Garland has at this point. Also I don't think the load JBB is putting on Sexton at the moment is sustainable. There is no point in putting heavy minutes on Sexton if we aren't in the playoff hunt or have a true #1 option on the team. There is still minutes to develop Garland especially with how Delly has been playing this year. It would be a very sell low moment if they moved Garland this off-season.

I think the best bet is to hope we can develop Garland and when the next impact player comes on the market, Garland can be the center piece of that trade. I doubt we can find someone similar age to Garland and with similar potential to trade for. I could see Garland being part of a trade on draft night to move up or to trade for another pick when the Cavs target is still on the board.

I dug around some on/off stats for Sexton, Garland, and KPJ.

This season, with Garland off and Sexton and KPJ on-court:
Sexton: TS% = 57.6%, 1.14 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = TS% = 57%; 1.07 points per possession

What about that same lineup since the Clarkson trade?
Sexton: TS% = 59.3%; 1.15 points per possession
KPJ: TS%= 56.7%; 1.09 points per possession

Same thing but with Love on the court?
Sexton: TS% =58.2%; 1.18 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 60.7%; 1.21 points per possession

Since the Clarkson trade, Sexton and Garland on and KPJ off:
Sexton: TS% = 58.5%; 1.23 points per possession
Garland: TS% = 54.2%; 1.05 points per possession

With Love on:
Sexton: TS% = 58.5%; 1.26 points per possession
Garland: TS% = 54.8%; 1.10 points per possession

Same thing, but with Garland and KPJ on and Sexton off:
Garland: TS% = 39.9%; .82 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 46%; .94 points per possession

With Love on:
Garland: TS% = 38%; .76 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 38.3%; .79 points per possession

So the worst world is benching Sexton. The combination of Sexton and Love really benefits both Garland and KPJ because the former two absorb significant defensive pressure. My argument would be that Garland projects to be a more traditional point guard. Long-term, I do not think the combination of him and Sexton can ever work defensively. On top of that, between Hayes, LaMelo, and others, this is a draft heavy on facilitators. Ultimately, I think the Sexton/KPJ combo, once you add another facilitator, could be a really fun and effective NBA offense.

Does Deni Avidjia count as a facilitator?

I haven’t watched too much tape. What do you think?

It would be a lineup where everyone can pass, but no one would be a great pg. Deni looks like a better playmaker than Osman to my eye.

I am a fan of a de-centralized offense in terms of initiation because teams with a ball dominant pg that isn't Lebron can be contained in the playoffs.

Remember when Ty Lue would Blitz Isaiah Thomas, Oladipo, Teague, Lowry and their offense that was lauded in the regular season groaned to a halt?

The Warriors did the same thing to Harden and it generally worked.

Also, the team has played really well in Sexton pg lineups(worse passing than garland) but with Nance and Love on the floor. I think Deni is a passer like they are and would have a similar positive effect.

He's prob my top 3 choice. I don't think he is going to be a #1 option, but will be a taller, better defensive and maybe better playmaking version of Cedi. I think he is at a similar spot to Cedi when he was 21-22, but he is 19

Randolph is just another John Holland
