I dug around some on/off stats for Sexton, Garland, and KPJ.
This season, with Garland off and Sexton and KPJ on-court:
Sexton: TS% = 57.6%, 1.14 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = TS% = 57%; 1.07 points per possession
What about that same lineup since the Clarkson trade?
Sexton: TS% = 59.3%; 1.15 points per possession
KPJ: TS%= 56.7%; 1.09 points per possession
Same thing but with Love on the court?
Sexton: TS% =58.2%; 1.18 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 60.7%; 1.21 points per possession
Since the Clarkson trade, Sexton and Garland on and KPJ off:
Sexton: TS% = 58.5%; 1.23 points per possession
Garland: TS% = 54.2%; 1.05 points per possession
With Love on:
Sexton: TS% = 58.5%; 1.26 points per possession
Garland: TS% = 54.8%; 1.10 points per possession
Same thing, but with Garland and KPJ on and Sexton off:
Garland: TS% = 39.9%; .82 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 46%; .94 points per possession
With Love on:
Garland: TS% = 38%; .76 points per possession
KPJ: TS% = 38.3%; .79 points per possession
So the worst world is benching Sexton. The combination of Sexton and Love really benefits both Garland and KPJ because the former two absorb significant defensive pressure. My argument would be that Garland projects to be a more traditional point guard. Long-term, I do not think the combination of him and Sexton can ever work defensively. On top of that, between Hayes, LaMelo, and others, this is a draft heavy on facilitators. Ultimately, I think the Sexton/KPJ combo, once you add another facilitator, could be a really fun and effective NBA offense.
