23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

If we can get him into on a minor league deal... Get Ken Giles in with an opt out? I say yes on a minor league deal...

On a side note...

Cesar Hernandez just signed a minor league deal with the Tigers...

Players are going to start taking lesser deals to get into camps here soon...

You think we could get Price or Britton on a minor league deal? I'd so take Jason Castro with a minor league deal. Matt Duffy for an utility spot? Solano?

Anyone else out there we would want on a minor league deal? We all know Shaw will try to beat Francona at Cribbage again haha

You mean the David Price that announced his retirement with the ending of last season??

I forgot about that one... He is still listed on sites...

Edit: Research says he didn't officially "retire" he just doesn't plan on pitching in 23...

Anyone you want us to bring in on a minor league deal?

Not particularly. I know a few guys will get signed but no one I am hoping gets signed to a minor league deal plus camp invite..

Every guys that gets signed and held onto past spring training takes at-bats/ inning pitched away from players coming thru the farm system.
Those players coming thru the system have to get playing time (be it at-bats or inning pitched) so that additional development can occur or so a determination can be made (said player is or is not part of the future plans)...

Jason Castro has retired.. Seems like there are still a few quality relievers out there as FAs... As far as Britton goes, I'd consider kicking his tires. He recently held a showcase so teams are aware of his current abilities..

Dang sites not taking players off their lists lol I don't always remember every name of who retired and didn't lol

Britton and Giles both had solid careers before the injuries and both had/will have showcases... Nothing wrong with bring guys like them in on minor league deals...

There is one counter... I'm not against having veterans in camp especially if they have the personalities like a Mike Freeman/veterans who are willing to work with the younger players.

Stephan wouldn't be as effective as he has been without a guy like Parker around... Having a various group of good natured veterans can help a young player develop just as well as ABs and innings can do...

You gotta find the right mix and Cleveland's FO has always been willing to bring in veterans for spring. Now we don't have many open roster spots, so we won't attract a lot of them, but some players just need to get into a camp more than anything else...

Touki is a good example... He needs to get his career back on track and Cleveland has been known for doing well with guys in his predictament... Plus Cleveland is willing to give opt outs and/or allow guys to seek MLB deals/trades to other teams.

I'm confused...

We could have easily beaten that offer for Irvin... They must really be high on MIF Hernaiz...

Well let's see in a few years what the hell the A's are doing lol

A's are blindly going after toolsy prospects/players

Maybe all it took was Benson, Hankins, Tena and I. Greene for Murphy

Cleveland would have done that trade in a second...

The rumor mill said A's wouldn't take the Murphy deal without one of our top prospects... And they didn't even take a top prospect in the Murphy deal (via national media). And for Irvin they got a mid tier prospect on paper...

I really don't get how the A's are deciding on their prospects so their GM is either gonna be herald as a genius or begging for table scraps in a few seasons...

I could agree that Parker probably/might have helped Stephan and others, but suggesting that Stephan wouldn't be as effective is probably BS. So should we think that Cleveland can't develop pitchers unless they have a Parker or Shaw around? The answer is hell no and that idea is silliness with a team that already has good leadership.

Touki was a good signing because Cleveland has developed and/or improved numerous pitchers. It was a smart move by Touki to get his career back on track.

What mix do they need? They have 5 veteran SP in the rotation. They have JRam and Zunino with several of the young players quickly becoming good examples/leaders. They have one of, if not the best coaching staffs in all of baseball. They don't need to bring in a Mike Freeman unless it is to coach.

I'm not against giving Britton or Giles a chance to make this team. Not even in the slightest, but they get rostered only if they can outperform the current options. They don't need anymore fucking "veterans" just because they are veterans.

...and WTF would we do with Irvin? Sometimes you don't make any sense whatsoever.

I'm more interested in the idea that we could have better helped Baltimore and ourselves in return. Irvin isn't much and I'm surprised they dealt for him.

The main reason why Stephan ended up with that pitch he did was Parker...

Also I usually make more sense than you do...

And it was more about, I am confused about how the A's are running the team lol I bet via the national media on both Murphy and Irvin Cleveland probably gave the better offer... (We at least inquired about Irvin and his price, we just haven't gotten the Plesac deal we wanted...)

Plesac is still in Cleveland which means they haven't found a deal that makes sense to get another SP. It's making it very likely Plesac is a Guardian in 23...

We all know its a high probability that Cleveland got the general idea of what's the A's wanted for Irvin since they generally get that for everyone and Cleveland could have easily (and would have been willing to on paper if Plesac was traded) outbid for Irvin...
