@BimboColesHair

I know you said it's possible Will Brennan doesn't get added to the 40 man roster, but it would be a mistake not to from his numbers. He is doing exactly what Kwan did last year in a sense from the numbers.

Do you either at this trade deadline and/or this offseason before the Rule 5 draft they will make a 4 for 1 type of trade to get that All-Star to help setup a WC/playoff run?

A follow up question - how is Brennan defensively in center field? I can't see him replacing Straw at some point unless he's well above average. But the guy is hitting .340 at Columbus and his OPS is almost identical to what Kwan put up last year, although the sample is much smaller.

Also, Fangraphs has Oscar Gonzalez as the 6th best defensive right fielder in baseball at this point. Has he established himself as a cornerstone player going forward, or at least someone they're taking seriously now?

From what i know about Brennan, He isnt Straw in CF, but honestly very few are. He has a positive rating out there so no issues with him in any of the OF spots. He has pitched before so Brennan has a good enough arm for RF.

That's the thing, numbers wise, he is doing exactly what Kwan did last season. He is proving everyday he deserves a chance to get some big league At bats. We decided this season to run with the hot bats and see what they can do, so no reason to stop with that tactic. The problem is we have (and it's a good problem) a bunch of talent coming at the same time. Straw is signed long term (maybe we jumped the gun on that in hind sight?) So he's our CF, then we have Kwan and OGonz proving themselves while guys like Valera and Brennan are just killing the ball behind them. Don't forget Palacios is a solid bat as well (who probably can still play some INF).

How do we manage all these prospects coming up at the same time without losing one for nothing? I feel like we will make a big trade soon (3/4 for one player) type of deal. Not sure if Bimbo thinks that as well, but I personally do.

Peter Gammons mentioned twice in his most recent article on The Athletic that the Marlins would be targeting a CF in any Pablo Lopez trade discussions. They also need an upgrade at SS. Will Brennan and Gabriel Arias for Pablo Lopez is an intriguing idea, as Lopez has two and a half years left of control and would immediately be slotted in as the #2 starter in this rotation.

I believe Brennan is better defensively than Kwan. He’s got more pop too while having an excellent eye and obvious bat to ball skills. I like the kids swing myself. He’s a good bit more of a physical presence than Kwan too, but I don’t know how they’ll fit him in.

They did jump the gun when they extended Straw and now it looks like he’s closer to the player before we acquired him. If he wasn’t the best damn defensive CFer in baseball then sitting him wouldn’t be a dilemma.

How about We see what Wil can do before dealing him. Might be better off sending Straw and Arias.

What would I do?

I'd hold onto Rosario until this season is over (unless the team collapses between now and mid-July), move him in the winter, keep Gimenez at 2B, and look to come out of camp with Arias at SS. Range and high-quality defense up the middle is going to be a must have with the shift banned starting next year. Miller is fine up the middle in a pinch, and Freeman is a 2B only at the MLB level, but I think they need to explore the Ben Zobrist route with Miller starting this winter. Get him in the OF, get him working at 3B, make him an everyday bat or close to an everyday bat by getting him comfortable at any position.

Arias' ceiling in the banned shift climate at the MLB level is that much higher for me. Yes, the swing and miss is a concern, but the range, arm, and power potential from the right side is very intriguing.

Seems to me that Rosario has a higher ceiling post shift as well.

Substitute Straw for Brennan and I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

Going to take a break answering stuff for a bit.

Pile up questions, I'll try to get to them all when I can down the line.

Thanks Bimbo ... appreciate insights that you provide. I will re-iterate my previous post for weeks ago ... Lets keep this to strictly Bimbo questions, Answers to questions that Bimbo previously gave (but can't get to when working and time w family). This way when he does have time to answer questions he doesn't need to search 10 pages of our laymen's 3rd party opinions that belong elsewhere when he is trying to help us out.

So best then to take non-Bimbo answers to the appropriate other threads if you want to discuss them? I think that works well for all parties involved!
