Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Always a dream, never really any smoke there. Fit was there but the interest from either party wasn't.

2/26.5 and an option for a 3rd year. Little more than expected for him, on top of the option.

Mets are busy today, set the mid-tier market for IFs and OFs in one day.

Interesting to me that there wasn't any mutual interest. Wonder who we do have interest in?

Smith and Davis' versatility would be welcome, but neither are nothing to write home to momma about. I feel like Debbie Downer with a number of these guys. Players like Canha, Smith, Davis, and even Gurriel Jr. don't excite me much. Funny thing is, at this time I don't even know what my expectations should be. I'm in some kind of f'd up purgatory and I need some help.

I mean is it too much to ask for 1 fucking rumor? I don't even care if it's from a legit source. Lie to me!

Count me as relieved the Guardians aren't signing Canha to a contract like that.

I was going to suggest that Alex Dickerson might be a good pickup, but the history of his lower back issues continued into 21 and that's not good.

We need something to happen and soon. FFS Gson is talking about trading Bieber now. lol

Well I wanted Canha, but we couldn't at that rate sadly... I guess we gotta keep searching

Remember Ian Happ... Arb is on the 30th so I think something could happen that way

I could get on board with acquiring Happ, but he's kinda in the same category as those I listed. A good piece, but hopefully not a team like the Guardians' big acquisition.

Edited to say that he(and those I mentioned) are very good complimentary pieces. That best describes how I view them.

Really though.

Patience this off season. 1st key date was Rule 5 day.

Next is non-tender day. A lot of smoke on some pretty nice players being non-tendered/teams looking to trade guys they will non-tender in preparation for the lockout/possible changes to the arbitration system.

After that the CBA is going to dictate how they operate coming out of the lockout, if there is a transaction freeze like I am expecting.

If a salary floor is agreed upon and is put into effect for the 2022 season they have a lot of ammo to play with and a lot of ways to play with it.

If a salary floor is agreed upon but teams are given until 2023 to meet it, that’s where things will get interesting.

All signs are pointing to a salary floor, in some sort of fashion, at the moment. The rules around that will force their hand when the time comes.

Thanks Bimbo. It's all in good fun as there isn't much news/rumors to discuss.

I do think that it would be kinda f'd up if there is a salary floor and no ceiling. Seems like that would put the low to mid market teams at a severe disadvantage unless profit sharing is changed as well.

I'm curious to see how the non-tendered players affect guys like Garcia in FA. Will it drive his price down or have no noticeable effect? Just more shit I won't get an answer to until it happens.

If they do a salary floor a Jose extension makes even more sense.
