I play pick up games with players similar to collin?
He is 20 years old. Jesus h let him develop

Nothing wrong with pointing out Sexton is inconsistent running the plays because, you know, that's the problem. He does break off plays and has irritated the veterans who don't feel like they are getting the chance to influence the game, just like playing pick up ball.

Nothing wrong with this analogy, and there is something wrong with making it personal.

When was the last time a 2nd year guy has been traded for good value that wasn't part of some package for a star player?
MCW won the ROY and still was traded in his second season.

To this point I don't think the Cavs have done a good job at developing Sexton into a better passer. Larry Drew at least had the vets run plays with Sexton. Pick and pop with Love was something that seem to work well for both of them. Beilein to this point hasn't installed any plays for Sexton or even Garland to run. You might see some plays at the very start of the game but they never seem to go back to them or reuse them in another game. To this point all we see are just sets where the decision making is left up to the ball handler and finding the open man. Teams have bread and butter plays that they constantly run and aren't completely reliant on a system.

Even with LeBron who had amazing vision, they would run plays just to make sure certain guys would stay involved.

great post. There should be a fake it till you make it element to this.

He really isn't that bad of a passer. Got some great assists last night. I don't think he is as good as Garland with Vision, but I think saying he has none isn't right. I also think he and Love are the anti-buddy ball right now.

Hard to remember a less deserving ROY in the past 40 years of the NBA. He gobbled up empty stats on a team that was tanking, basically a taller and less polished Ramon Sessions.

I think Bryon Scott did a good job with Kyrie. Alot of his assists were just him running action to make a pass to an open player. It taught Kyrie about how to draw guys in before making a pass. They weren't asking him to make alot of reads or decisions. It was purely plays where he was suppose to make a certain pass to a guy read to shot. Kyrie uses those same plays and moves today to put up assists.

That is exactly what Collin needs. Draw the defense and pass. Garland can pass a guy open with his dribble, but Collin needs to get a guy open based on his penetration. He had 5 assists doing it last night. He could get more each game.

Also, Tristan dropped 5 passes last night from Love, Sexton and Garland.

Well, isn't that STILL the criticism of Kyrie? He never learned to be a playmaker for others, but instead learned how to be a #1 scoring option who cannot make teammates better. He doesn't really play a team game and held back the execution of Coach Stevens sets. I understand that the argument here is that Sexton needs to make steps in the right direction, but Beilein is trying to establish an offense that requires team play like Stevens.

I think Beilein should be trying to blend a team system which allows for a guy like Sexton to find his own shot outside of the system when necessary. Brad Stevens offense has a bunch of rules for how players move in every set. Lue was able to break that down year in year out because they watched enough tape that they knew what those rules were. Same thing with the Hawks in 2015 and 2016. I think Budenholzer learn from that and made adjustments to his system when he went to the Bucks. I know Giannis is a big part of having to make that adjustment but this Bucks team don't really plays the same as those Hawks teams.

As for Kyrie, I think he is better casted as a #2 scoring option than a #1 which I think Sexton will be better at too. I think Garland and Sexton probably flip between #2 and #3 scoring options from night to night once we get a true #1 option. I don't think Mike Brown did any favors developing Kyrie in year 3. Then LeBron came to town and Kyrie settled into being a #2 scoring option. I don't think he really had much development after year 2.

I don't understand it myself.

Does Sexton need to get better,I agree. For people to say he needs to be traded is ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of watching Thompson fumble passes right in his hands. If you're too close to him he's likely to fumble the pass. He's cost some guys assists. To be fair, it can be tough to catch a bounce pass in traffic at close range.

Collin reminds me of Kyrie in that he's a score first small guard. The difference is Kyrie would use his incredible dribbling ability and spin moves to get separation and spin a shot high off the glass. Collin is more about sheer acceleration. He'll get his man a little off balance and blow by him. He's not as skilled as Kyrie at finishing at the rim, though. He needs to get better at spinning the ball off the glass to avoid getting his shot blocked.

He's got the floater down, though. Hit the brakes and shoot the floater off one foot before the big can swat it. Last night he got into the lane, hit the brakes like he was going with the floater, then blew by Gasol for a layup. Sweet.

weird, empty stats on a tanking team. I feel like I've seen that before.
