I don't understand it myself.

Does Sexton need to get better,I agree. For people to say he needs to be traded is ridiculous.
needs to be traded: no

is untouchable: also, no.

Have to decide if he's a better long term cog on your team or a short term asset. I can be convinced on either side of this, which imo speaks to Sexton's exciting potential and frustrating flaws.

I wonder if his strength and size increase has negatively impacted his jumper particularly the long ball.

20 years old, tremendous quickness and leaping ability, and an insane work ethic. He's going to be a great player as he's constantly practicing and refining his skills. This might be another Mark Price/Kevin Johnson situation where the Cavs had two excellent young guys who played the same position so it made sense to trade one. In this case it's Sexton and KPJ, assuming Sexton is a 2-guard.

I can see the Cavs trading Sexton after this season or the next. Hopefully it will work out as well as the KJ for Larry Nance trade.

No chance of improving ? At 20 years old
Next year this time we can trade garland. Impossible for him to improve
He could improve, he also may not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and no one really knows 100% for sure

20 years old with a relentless work ethic, getting plenty of playing time, and a coaching staff dedicated to teaching and player development.

This is a guy who comes back at midnight after a game to work on his skills.

My money says he gets better.

Sexton's work ethic and desire to improve is great. I just wonder if he knows what skill he's actually most deficient at.

IMO, it's his court vision and feel/awareness/BBIQ. These are extremely hard to learn, and can't be learned by yourself in an empty gym. They also can't be learned by waving off the play and going one on one every possession. Jordan Clarkson has been in the NBA for 6 seasons, played 3 seasons in college, played for the Philippines National team. Yet, still is severely lacking in court awareness.

Self awareness in life as well as basketball is normally one of the last things you finally learn, if you learn it at all. The league is littered with seemingly very talented hoopers who never "got it". If Collin is thinking "I just need to get my 3 point shot more consistent and my drive left/right/left cross perfect.." he's going to be a long ways away from reaching the potential we all see.

This is why not having a viable vet PG/G on the team stinks. Love can bark at Sexton all he wants, but Kevin isn't dribbling by 3 guys and finishing in traffic. And throwing Clarkson out there who basically plays like Sexton already isn't helping. Need a guy Beilien can point to and say "I want you to play like that, make those plays, and you'll get more burn."

Stop drafting 19 year old point guards. You want a pg draft one that had 2-3 years in college. To expect to draft a 19 year old and have him be an effective pg in little over a year. Is just dumb
Alternative is give him a couple years to develop. Nah. Just trade him now

Good column on Sexton, right on cue.

Beilein sees him as a scorer who can pass as opposed to a passer who can score. No kidding. But the gist of the column is that Sexton wants to be a good passer and he's improving, at least according to JB.

Love seems to be in his corner, even reaching out to him in the off-season. So is Larry Nance, Jr.

Love is not in his corner. He hates his guts lol. His temper tantrums towards Collin on the court are pretty damn apparent.

I wouldn't say Nance cares for him either, or he is just frustrated.

Noticed that Sexton does look to pass more especially to the roll man. Not the best result, but he tries.

I dunno. Love had his arm around him during that last win. Losing as much as they did in the last month probably makes people pretty frustrated

It's more about Sexton missing wide open players behind the 3pt line. Love's body language is pretty crazy when it happens.

To be fair this part of the article does mention Love’s frustration.

During in-game stoppages, Love will pull Sexton aside and offer constructive criticism, which sometimes turns into yelling. Love has admittedly let the moment get the best of him. But he’s been trying to deliver a specific message that will resonate. He wants Sexton to become a better player. He believes there’s more untapped potential.

Love has been making an attempt recently but one would have to be gullible to believe most of that nonsense from Love and that throwaway line from Nance.

The coaches trying to work against Sexton’s natural instinct to attack and look inward as opposed to looking outward for open three point shooters was interesting. I think those are the emotionally back breaking misses Sexton has to watch out for. Make the right play even if it probably ends up in a brick.
