Ben is very good at transition offense and against weak defenses. He’s also an excellent defensive player.

His half court game against good defense ranges from barely acceptable to atrocious. He plays well “downhill” but not “uphill”.

He also has no interest in working on his game or pushing himself in game against opposition. He can smash the easy button. Classic underachiever.

IMHO he would be a disaster on our team for cultural reasons alone, but our spacing is worse than Philly’s and Cleveland is an even less desirable location for a socialite than Philly.

The one big advantage the Cavaliers have as a destination for Ben is that the fan base will put up with a lot more bullshit than many other cities and especially Philly. Nevertheless I don’t think it will take more than two years for Cleveland to get tired of him.

A shame, really, because if Simmons had half of Sexton’s drive he‘d be an MVP candidate because his athleticism and other gifts are top end.
Agreed. Cleveland isn’t a destination and he’ll be a good soldier for a couple months before wanting out. At least Love is very passive/aggressive and for the most part stays quiet.
Unfortunately Simmons would be a ticking time bomb here thus he is not worth the assets that they would have to give up to get him.

He won’t make as much noise as a ticking time bomb but it’ll end badly. “Silent but Deadly.”

He’ll make $36 million this year so the man is doing just fine.

In fact the Sixers have nothing to worry about if Simmons stays in California because they’ve added Andre Drummond at a bargain price. Andre is a much better FT shooter and rebounder than Ben, and he can play the point about as well as Simmons shoots threes.
one guy you are begging to shoot the other you are begging not to.
Never left a game watching Andre thinking, "he should have been more aggressive looking for his offense" that's for sure.

The sooner Andre shoots like he did in Cleveland, the better. Sixers fans will learn to appreciate his offensive game just like we did in Cleveland and LeBron did in LA.

Okoro will end up better than Sexton over the course of their careers and he will never average more than 19 PPG doing it.
Anyway, if they are going to deal someone for Ben Simmons (which I now think has an under 10% chance of actually happening) It might make sense for it to be Garland of the SexLand duo, as you would need the G spots off the ball, finishing, and closing out quarters/games, which would be more in Sexton's wheelhouse than Garlands'. A Garland/Rubio/Cedi/'22 1st for Simmons/Maxey works on paper. I don't think Klutch lets it happen because they don't want Garland or Simmons to play for Morey and the 76ers. I also think the 76ers don't do it while they wait out the trade market. I do think the Cavs do it because the front office can't wait much longer on player development and regardless of playoff bed-shitting, Ben Simmons absolutely helps you win regular season games.
Subtract either for Simmons and the defense leap frogs from bottom of the NBA to top or near top of the NBA (12 or higher) and a likely playoff series, maybe even 2 series.
Doesn't matter, it's not happening. Altman has probably already put that offer out there (or maybe the same offer but with Collin instead of Garland).
Okoro over Sexton in the long term is of course possible but it would take significant development and improvement in Okoro's skills on offense. I think Okoro is also much more of a SG then he is a SF and his scoring ability from the perimeter is really going to need to improve a lot. Hopefully it happens but it is far from a certainty IMO.

Collin looks like he's put in a lot of work on his body this offseason. If Windler finds a way to become a 3 and D guy, I think Garland/Sexton/Windler/Mobley/Allen could be a lineup that doesn't get dominated on the defensive end.

Last 12 or so games Isaac averaged like 16/4 while playing his normally solid defense and good floor game. Will see if it carries over, I think this year he's more like a 13/4 starter playing the G/F spot and next year is the real "light goes on" season for him (which is kind of the normal trajectory of young players in the NBA). I think he's more of a G than a F as well, but as the team is constructed, he's the starting 3 who fills in at the 2.
The high level hoops IQ, superb athletic ability, great work ethic, strong defensive acumen and relentless motor were there day 1 for Okoro. I think he can reach Jimmy Butler/Jaylen Brown levels given if can get his jumper going and can add a handle. If he just gets a semi-respectable corner 3 to the tune of .338 or so, you have a stellar 3-D starter.

I also think he has to get better on Defense. The idea or messaging from the media that he is some kind of stopper is kind of insane. He tries hard but I don't think has the size to guard small forwards and seemed to slow to guard the better shooting guards. All metrics for his defensive ratings are very similar to Collin Sexton and Sexton is generally recognized as a poor defensive player.

Sexton is not a better defender as it pertains to what does not show up in the box score than Okoro. Okoro was drafted based on his defensive awareness and athleticism to back it up. He has an Iggy upside and should become a pretty much lock down defender as time goes on. If you asked Sexton he would tell you Okoro is better , but Sexton will also tell you Okoro better watch out cause I got something for him lol
Heading into year two Okoro is a much more effective defender than any other guard on the roster. I think that would have been much more obvious if he had been taking the task of defending lesser offensive players, than the other teams best offensive player, as a rookie, all game, every game unless it was a center.
He effectively forcing pass outs and ball holds continuously against anyone he faces for the most part so I am not sure what you are trying to insinuate but it's not practical. I think with the rule change making life a little easier on defenders it will show up even more in the box score when he is not getting into foul trouble for playing good defense like he was last season

I'd like to see him be the better defensive version of Normal Powell tbh

Metrics are important, but sometimes you have to put down the calculator and watch the match ups. Okoro is hands down a better and more versatile defender than Sexton.

The messaging coming from the media hasn't been concocted out of thin air. They're regurgitating what every team mate, coach and scout says about him.

Pump the brakes some and watch the kid develop.

I was one of the biggest Isaac homers before the '20 draft. I think he's obviously going to improve but highly doubt he ever reaches Jimmy Butler's level esp with his playmaking. Butler's ballhandling is on another level and currently Isaac has trouble dribbling more than 3 times with his offhand.

There is a noticeable improvement in Sexton when you compare him to the past few seasons. More than his body I was actually impressed with the way he commanded the podium during Media Day. It's been rumored that Sexton spends too much time in the gym and is socially awkward. I saw a really confident player on Monday. Hope it carries over through the season.

Sure, it's a high ceiling, but Butler wasn't Jimmy Buckets for his first 2 years either after 3 years in college. I don't think Okoro will end up being a "go get a bucket" style player, but I think he will be a top end starter/borderline all star player. His playmaking in the pick and roll is actually a place I think he can excel in because of his willingness to pass and ability to make the right read quickly. How well his shot and handles develop will ultimately dictate how far he goes as a playmaker in the PnR, for sure though.
He's got several things you can't teach: a relentless motor, high level athletic ability, phenomenal feel for the game, crazy worth ethic.
