Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Criznit - it’s debatable which of us is the bigger Palacios fan but we are both at the front of his bandwagon..

I really want to see what kind of year he can put together in AAA/ML in 2022. He has some concerns, defense in general but could become a fairly good OF/LF IMO. Swing looks a bit long at times and quality southpaw pitching might be a problem for him at the highest level(s).

Only one way to find out though..

Both of you take the back seat. I was all over Palacios pre-draft.

I would rather trade the comp A pick than Palacios, but he's exactly the kind of prospect C. Hawkins would ask back (and more) for Happ.
Oh I remember "back in the day" - it was your postings that brought him to my attention.

Well, if we are gonna make a trade or two, it will cost prospects....and we will.

We can't go into a season with only seventeen pitchers, one MLB catcher, and our present outfield.

Plus, many of our present active roster players/pitchers have little or no trade value....Zimmer, Mercado, Chang, Miller, Clement, Allen, Gose, and Hentges.

We need to clear 40 man space for at least five players from outside the org, and probably six.

agree with the Carter Hawkins perspective.. but disagree with what the CleFO braintrust would want in return.. Happ is the kind of player our FO believes can be "bought" while dumpster diving in the land of misfit players..err.. Free Agency.. The guys that would be of interest from the Cubs have a little more to prove (read: unproven) and a LOT higher upside.. Happ is what he is.. and but will not remain as his numbers continue to wane/spiral in the wrong direction.. The only thing Happ's doing well is getting good AB's w/ RISP, although, his RBI numbers aren't worth fawning over.. A straight deal of Palacios for him would be a good deal in the short term for the cubs. IDK for the Guardians. I will say paying a guy almost $ 7 MM for what Happ brings is entirely underwhelming.

If anything.. a different deal could be contemplated if Carter Hawkins has his heart set on getting Palacios.. That is.. send Richie Palacios with Ernie Clement to the Cubs who return Alexander Canario.. Canario is a former SF Giants prospect that was just traded there.. If the Guardians want to go really crazy.. add any one of Kevin Alcantara OF, Brennan Davis OF and or Alexander Vizcaino RHRP and make a bigger deal..

Thoughts..

Amed Rosario for Ian Happ? Just throwing it out there - no idea if this addresses a need for the Cubs.

Cubs are rebuilding, so they want prospects...
But are they? Are they "retooling" or "rebuilding on the fly"?

They did sign Yan Gomes and Marcus Stroman, so they don't appear to be in complete teardown mode to me.

What they want IDK, that much I do know.

Cubs need to rebuild... I think they signed those guys for veteran leadership in a sense, but honestly I don't think Happ will finish the season in Chicago

Cubs have Hoerner and Madrigal for MIF, both under 25, both already better than Amed.

I'd offer N. Jones, Chang and comp pick for Happ and RP Scott Effross

Forgot they added Madrigal.

Think they'd move Happ and Contreras in the same deal? That would interest me.

I think both players get moved this season, so the same deal is possible

I doubt both players are moved in the same trade unless the return is huge for the ChiCubs or a 3 team trade where Happ goes to one team & Contreras to the other.

In terms of trade assets Happ & Contreras are 2 of the top 3 or 4 trade chips for Carter Hawkins..
Carter Hawkins needs to maximize the return for each trade asset to rebuild and retool that organization for the next 3 plus years..

That is kind of what I was thinking, it would obviously be expensive and the Cubs would probably get a larger/better return in separate deals. Not completely ruling it out myself but seems unlikely.

The Cubs are a hard read right now, but you don't sign Stroman and Gomes as "veteran leaders". They could use a true SS and definitely need a SP or 2 if they want to have any chance. Madrigal is a 2B and Hoerner can play SS, but he's more of a swiss army knife. Be interesting to see what happens.

I think the signing of Gomes is a fairly clear signal they want to trade Contreras for prospects, or young/controllable SP like a Plesac or Tmac. Certainly there will be other considerations if they want guys like Plesac/TMac..

Hard read for sure, but not a fire sale... Maybe..
