Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the signing of Gomes is a fairly clear signal they want to trade Contreras for prospects, or young/controllable SP like a Plesac or Tmac. Certainly there will be other considerations if they want guys like Plesac/TMac..

Hard read for sure, but not a fire sale... Maybe..
the reason for the signings could be a little more simplistic.. Gomes is a quality catcher on a controllable contract in a market that has a limited supply.. Same with Stroman as a ground ball pitcher with experience at the ML level.. but at a higher salary.. Nothing kicks a minor league system in the pants harder than a quality veteran being made available in trade for blue chip prospects by a non-contender as the trading deadline approaches..

In short.. when (not if) the cubs fall out of contention.. they have two prize trade chips that can and will fill their prospect coffers rather nicely.. perhaps well before the trading deadline if the Cubs get the kind of return they want..

Oh.. and the Cubs can trade Wilson Contreras and his one year rental value.. perhaps a bag-o-balls and a A- prospect with some upside?

We'll see...

W.C is worth somewhere between 2-4 WAR while playing a premium position. His price tag is a mystery to me, but he won't be on sale.

No reason to start the year with both on the roster IMO. Whatever we offer for Contreras, Sandy Leon comes along for free.

Leon is supposed to be that veteran minor league guy who replaces someone who is out for a long period of time at the catching position... he is nothing more than that...

One of these days.... You'll tell me something I don't know.

My Leon mention was meant to be a bit of a joke. Upon reread I can hear that it sounds more legit then intended.

Why you tryin' to agitate me bruh? Sandy Leon is the f'n greatest and I'm gonna have to break out his avatar pic again to remind you.

Well why you need to put an Lol or something when it's on the joking side :p it's hard to tell sarcasm through text at times

You better get it back out then!

I have no idea what the Cubs are doing.

On one hand they look like they are rebuilding, but on the other hand they look like they are tooling up for a run at coretooled,

A rotation that begins Stroman-Hebdricks-Miley is only one SP away from being contention worthy.

I had them as the second most likely trade partner for us, but now I have major doubts.

They now have $15 mil tied up in two catchers, with a decent looking prospect that could be ready by mid season, but at least by 2023. One way or the other, Contreras is gonna be moved by the deadline....unless they are in contention.

********

Nico Horner is not a better player than Amed...not even close.

*********

Depending on what the Cubs are, contender or retooler, they would probably have big interest in what we have....MLB ready SS and SP.

********

I put Happ in the same general category as Amed. Both are players who arrived very young, both still fairly young...with a reasonable expectation of remaining upside.

I dont like the strike outs, but he does get on base, has 25 HR pop, is a switch hitter with defensive flexibility. He is a better than average...not great...base runner. He has a 112 career wRC+. His big problem is that he is prone to severe month long slumps. If he plays full time, I envision a close to 3 WAR player.

Not at the top of my list, but I'd like to have him, because he would be a significant upgrade...but only for two years. I'd much prefer three years of control.

If all it took was Palacios, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but it would take more.

Nico Hoerner I think is a better player than you are rating him... He's fairly dang close to Freeman as a player overall. I am surprised he isn't in the same potential category as Amed...The only thing Hoerner honestly lacks is the power potential

Nico is a nice player who I'd like to have, and the comparison to Freeman is fairly accurate, except that Hoerner is a severe groundball hitter.

I would not trade Amed the player for Hoerner, but I would trade Amed the contract for Hoerner.

As stated many times, as GM my focus is putting the best team in the AL Central on the field for the next three years.

And I have the resources to do so.
