Call me crazy or overreacting but I think this is Baker's last year in Cleveland. Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski are cold, calculating operators. They do not seem like the types who like to tolerate the drama and pettiness Baker brings off the field. Add in his on-field performance and the fact that so many of our best players are in their primes now, I think they look for a QB who can maximize the talent level on this roster now. Nick Chubb/Ward will be in their 5th year next year, Garrett his 6th. The Browns cannot afford to wait around to see if Baker is the guy. He is who he is. He is an average QB who needs great talent around him to succeed.

Read the tea leaves, reporters such as Charles Robinson and Albert Breer (who have connections to this front office/coaching staff), keep insinuating that Baker may not be the guy next year and keep throwing out names like Deshaun Watson and Marcus Mariota as a possible replacement. Those two reporters are reputable enough for me to believe there is some credence to what they are saying. Those leaks are not coming from the Baker camp. A game like today has to aggravate Stefanski because if there is one thing he hates its turnovers. Baker had 4 costly ones today.

Adding it all up, I think this front office/coaching staff does not believe in Baker long-term, Stefanski calls plays like he doesn't trust him and they will try to find a replacement for him next year. There was a quote Kevin Clark of the Ringer had of Berry in which Berry said the QB is the most important position in football and its up to them to support the QB. Berry has shown to be aggressive and he will be this offseason in upgrading the QB position. Does this mean he lands a big whale? No clue.
Watson is a disgusting person, the sad part is if I knew his troubles wouldn’t affect his availability on the field I’d take him over Baker. That’s how sorry this team is under Mayfield.

I hope you're right.

Pretty much this.

I think they are too chicken shit to make a meaningful move. With Rodgers recent success in GB the only players we would want are Wilson and Watson. Why would you Wilson want to come here and Watson is a huge risk. We are fucked.

Wilson is dope and the consummate professional. Seattle will probably not be good again as he ages. He should clearly force a trade to us.

Does Wilson have a no trade clause?

The Browns are a good team that can a make serious leap with an upgrade at QB. You could probably say the same about the 49ers, Broncos, Dolphins, and Steelers though ...

Carr/Wilson/Rogers/Watson will have a lot of power in where they end up and I think it may be hard for them to pick Cleveland with no prior connection to the team. Browns would have to woo one of them over with a large extension and perhaps offer an extra year or two that they wouldn't normally give considering age/liability. This offseason has so much smoke, it feels like we're about to have an NBA style shift of top guys or maybe nothing at all.

Wilson and Watson have full no trade clauses, yes.

Rodgers doesn't have one, but for all intents and purposes he does because he can just threaten retirement if he doesn't get his way.

What the Browns are going to have to do is what the Rams did with Stafford. Legally get in contact with one/all of these veteran QBs when their respective teams formally put them on the block and allow other teams the permission to talk to them.

Then it's on Berry and Stefanski to sell them on Cleveland compared to other situations.

In all reality the only realistic option is Wilson. And they would have to convince him to come here.

I moved the post to the appropriate thread. You said it earlier that money talks and I truly belief the Browns will have to spend a large amount of picks, cap space, and maybe a longer contract than what they would normally give one of these guys if they had already been on the team.

We are bidding with top notch teams like the 49ers, Saints, and Steelers plus probably a half dozen other teams that have the money/draft capital. It's going to take way more than just the merits of the team to convince one of these guys.

So the question I have is ... what is too much? Should the Browns offer Carr top 5 QB money on top of the picks required to get him? Or give Rogers/Wilson a 3-5 year extension?

I'd much rather be miserable at my job and have guys like Lockett & Metcalf than....Landry & Peoples-Jones.

Then they need to convince him this is the best spot.

How about this for a pitch...

It is interesting that most fans entered the NFL and NBA season clearly believing that the Browns FO was the superior to the Cavs FO by a large margin.

How quickly things have reversed.

It is rather rare to see a Front Office go from being the darlings of the league to head-shaking exasperation in one season.

Andrew Berry could not have handled the Baker Mayfield situation any worse. It went from being a rather unfortunate injury matter into the biggest drama possible that could have ramifications for years.

Oh well, could have been worse. Could have signed Antonio Brown and watch him literally quit the team at halftime.

I am confident that Berry and Co. will learn from some of the setbacks this year and come back stronger.

Quick question for all y’all who wanted to win meaningless games to take momentum into the offseason:

What happens if we do what you want, play everyone and try to win, but end up embarrassing an entire organization and city with our effort? Do we take negative momentum into the offseason?

Asking for a friend.

We've seen seasons end on long winning streaks and the team is terrible the next season.

Doesn't matter..
