R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not going to create any noise about this because I respect the hell out of you and RCF, but I don't think discussion of the 2003 incident is political in nature. One of the things I've always loved about RCF is that I can post here and have some really honest discussions that you can't havr other places. There's zero chance I'm posting on Twitter or Facebook that I'm uncomfortable with all of praise thrown at his legacy without acknowledgement of every part of it. As long as everyone is being respectful, I don't see the harm. Just my two cents.

It shouldn't be... but then it was. So we cleaned it up.

Hell, even if you don't consider that huge part of his legacy, what is the grounds for him to be the new logo over Jordan, who was better than Kobe and did more for the game?
Jordan is alive and can demand royalties? It's not like the NBA could use Jump Man.

Wasn’t Kobe eligible for the Hall of Fame this year anyway?
If he was he is now super-eligible. And if this was baseball, one random writer would still not vote for him.

I'm going to sound like a prick here, but how many games are they going to do they 24 second violation/8 second backcourt thing? I thought it was really cool the first time and now I just feel like it's awkward.

It's not for you or the fans... it's for the close fraternity which are NBA players so that they can clear their heads and get back to playing.

Sure, I get that. Having lost someone close to me within the last year, I know we all grieve differently. I just wonder if it will reach a point where it hurts more than helps. I guess that's on them.

It’s been two days. Some teams hadn’t done the tribute yet until their games today. It’s really not a big deal.

I'd guess for the most part every team will do a tribute at their first home game since his death. Not that crazy.

Anything more than doing it for one game is entering drama queen territory.

"Pacers forward Alize Johnson, who has always worn No. 24 for Kobe, is not changing his number, per source. “You need that role model coming up and for me, it was God and him,” Johnson told @TheAthleticIND"

Can't believe this guy got shit on on Twitter because of this. That quote made perfect sense.

Nothing should be done like changing the Logo so early after someone's death. Good rule of thumb is just to let the emotions simmer down.
Making the Logo Kobe would be problematic in multiple ways (the rape allegation, the hero ball style of play, etc.) and frankly, as a corporate branding, it is stupid to change that is something so iconic. Kobe doesn't even have a silhouette that is famous (jumpman, shaq's dunk, iceman's finger roll, Dr. J rock the baby would be all more fitting) and him taking a turn around jumper is just a copy of one of many Jordan's signatures moves.

Are you honestly surprised? Twitter is a cesspool and you get ass blasted from voicing any sort of opinion.

This tragedy has made some of the Kobe stans go wayyyyy overboard. Another example here.

I think your last paragraph sums up the complexity of Kobe. I honestly think he was a pretty shitty guy when he was younger. And a big part of that is that I do think he raped that girl. I also think in his later years he started to become a better person. And that's a good thing. I think we can acknowledge all of the good he did do while also acknowledging that there's a girl out there somewhere today that may still be struggling with being raped.

I know I might be splitting hairs, but never rape, she admitted to originally agreeing to sex, she said no in the middle of it, thus why she ended up dropping it, very hard to prove. It was sexual assault.

But the blood, the tears, everything else is consistent with the assult. I believe her too, and he did give her 2.5 million.

Rape is a form of sexual assault. Consent is also retractable; a person can change their mind at any time, and their partner is responsible for respecting their decision to stop.

The case wasn't dropped because there wasn't enough evidence. It was dropped because Kobe's team made her life a living hell. His defense lawyer accused her of being schizophrenic and suicidal while she received death threats and hate mail after her identity was leaked multiple times. This led to the girl not being willing to testify, so charges were dropped.
