Thoughts on trading Jose Ramirez

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Where are you getting that the Arenado trade has fallen through? I’ve seen zero reports that it’s been called off.
I took his comment to say.. what if the Arenado trade fell through.. and then the query.. Of course, there isn't any indication in normal postings for this happening.. but..

what if?...

Signing Hernandez and Rosario to one-year deals for $13 million makes no sense if they're about to trade Hosey.
Wham, I agree on the surface, but ultimately any deals scrutiny would depend upon the return. At this time, I'd prefer they keep the Hamster and use the excess youngsters to add in RF, CF, 1B, and/or the BP.

I mentioned somewhere around here about calling KC and seeing what kind of deal can be made for Soler. Some cash would likely have to come with him, but the Indians have the prospects to make it feasible.

No. We have Franmil Reyes. We don't have a spot for Soler and I'm completely disinterested in stocking KC or getting them off the hook for him.

We have reached the point where the OF is Rosario, Mercado/Zimmer, and DJ/Luplow, with Naylor at first. There's nothing wrong with that unless you trade some of those guys for replacements. We have bodies all over the place. Time to play 'em.

You want to pursue some veteran BP help, particularly from the left side, sure, I'm all over that. But we got position players that we either have to play or let go. And we're not going to just boot these guys to the curb without giving some of them another shot, and finally giving the Jet one

Possibly a Zimmer/Johnson/Bradley bubble then? We might set a team strikeout record this season!

I don't know about "stocking KC". He's on the last year of control and we all know how that affects a players value. I find it hard to believe that CLE could pick up the entire $8M so a decent prospect would have to be sent, but I doubt it would be multiple. If it were multiple, they would be lower ranked prospects.

Anyway, I understand and don't disagree with you here Who. I just can't help but to think how nice the 2019 Soler would be in this lineup now. The lack of even decent defense is the issue for me, otherwise I'd have no qualms about acquiring him.

I don't know how things are going to "shake out" in the end, but I'm less confident than you that Naylor will be given anything. Having seen what Bradley has done this offseason and how they felt about Bauers at the alternate sight makes me think that the path for Naylor isn't quite clear. That and the fact that he is more of a contact oriented hitter. In 350 major league AB, his OPS is .692 and his OPS+ is 85, but he's young.

Speaking of Bradley, he's kinda the wild card here IMO. Clearly he struggled in his brief stint last season, but we witnessed what he can do to a baseball when he makes contact. He's the type of hitter that can strike out close to 200 times and still be very productive if he continues to hit with power and take walks. I'm curious to see the affects of his new conditioning on his game.

Bradley...

..looks like Tarzan...

..plays like Jane...

The end of his Indians career is fast approaching unless he performs.. put up or shut up time for BB..

After 45 sporadic AB as a 24 yr old? He doesn't play like Jane. Thus far he has slugged over .500 for his minor league career. He's also got on base at a .342 clip. He strikes out more than desired, but that isn't frowned upon like it used to be. Clearly without his power potential he would be a nobody, but that power potential is very real. In fact, I would call his rare.

I am hesitant to wade into this thread as I think a Ramirez trade this off-season is extremely unlikely. That said, this Brewers blog speculation on the potential acquisition costs is interesting. Obviously far superior to the Lindor-Cookie return.

And, Brewers have nothing of interest really. They have 2 top 100 prospects ... an OF who I just drafted, another 2nd/SS prospect and then 3 big lefties ... the first one Small who throws in low 90s who is more of a back-end high floor guy.

Cost if we do, has to be huge .... 2 top 100 and 2 other team top 10.

If the tribe could somehow get Senzel and Garrett from the Reds I would be more than happy to take that team into the season.
I know the teams are talking Rosario. Hope they can get something done.

Interesting, Pluto had a quote along those exact lines from Tito today:

We were kind of in the mode where there wasn’t a chance to see him (Jesus Aguilar) play. We weren’t sure if he could play or not...now, there are a few guys, we want to see if they can do it.

The Indians obviously have not forgotten that Aguilar made the All-Star team after they let him walk. Now he says "there are a few guys" in the same situation and the Indians are thinking we don't want to make that mistake again. Off the top of my head my guess is that group consists of Bradley, Chang, Luplow, Mercado, Zimmer, Amed Rosario, and Daniel Johnson. Also Quantrill as a starter. Obviously they aren't going to be giving all of them everyday starting jobs, but they will all be playing everyday IMO, either in Cleveland or Columbus.

Another Francona quote:

We like Yu Chang, we really do...We’d like to give him some everyday at-bats and see where it takes him. There’s a lot of talent in there.

So I'm thinking they're done dealing and will roll with what they have with the exception of needing a lefty in the pen. I'm all in on Gimenez, at least for one year, so Rosario for a LOOGY would suit me just fine.

As for the rest of them, I don't think Bradley, Chang or Zimmer can hit big league pitching but I would like to see Mercado, Luplow, and Johnson get at least 300 at-bats with the big club this year even if it costs us some wins. It would yield valuable information to make decisions going forward as we hopefully get in position to gradually increase the payroll over the next few years.
