People, you do realize it's extremely unlikely that Sexton suits up for this this team ever again, don't you?

Don't you?
Rubbish.
I'd say it is about an 80% chance he's a Cavs next year. They can't trade him at the moment with his injury, so the only realistic way he's not back next year is if some other team overwhelms him with an offer we cannot match. With his injury question marks, I think that unlikely. Anything near reasonable we will keep him, because one thing this team still needs is someone besides Garland who can create his own shot. Come playoff time, if we make it, our offense will be suffocated by teams going all out to stop Garland because we have no one else who can create his own shot. We aren't getting anyone better than Sexton in the draft, this team never has any luck bringing in free agents, and starting next year we are no longer in a longterm developmental mode, we are in a win now mode. Sexton fits that better than anyone we could bring in to replace him.

Don’t rule out a sign-and-trade.

At that point, he’s recovered, he’ll have a market.

If you said this right after the injury, I’d fully agree with you. However, I don’t know how many times in close games the Cavs needed a bucket and Collin provides that. I think the FO understands this as well. Not saying he’s definitely a Cav next year but I think it’s more than you think.

The Cavs already came out and say sexton is part of the long term process he is going to be a Cavs next year I would be super shocked if he wasn’t

A sign and trade still means someone would have to overwhelm him with an offer we wouldn't be willing to match. I just don't expect that, I think we'll match anything around 20 million a year or so, and given his injury he may not even get offers of that size. Right now this team has one true nba starting caliber guard. Yes, they can play Stevens or Okoro and call them a 2 guard, but does anyone really want to see either one of those guys try to bring the ball up court?? Sexton fills a dire need on this team, and getting back lesser pieces in a sign and trade wouldn't solve those needs as well as Sexton himself.

Also the front office has to see the scoring load being put on Garland and know that it really isn't best long term for success for him to carry that for the whole regular season year in year out. If they can figure out a way to incorporate Sexton into this group, it could keep everyone healthier and in a better position to compete at their highest level for the playoffs.

The team most certainly did not come out and say that. They don’t even have him under contract. Anything they’ve said about his future has been nothing but typical GM speak.

Altman made a mistake by not trading him prior to the draft. I don’t think he will be back next year, and might not want to because he will be coming off the bench.

Those opportunities need to be going to Garland or Mobley. Sometimes that means watching them struggle or fail at it, but that's development. Even if Sexton is back.

There was a time last year on here where we scoffed at the idea of trading Sexton for Tyler Herro. Now we would do that trade in a heart beat. :chuckle: I say that to put in perspective of how high his value once was.

Was responding to a post that assumes he is gone. Can you say he is 100% gone for development reasons? I agree with you that Garland and Mobley need to be the drivers at this point, but let’s face it, when we need an aggressive point scorer in crunch time, Sexton provides that. You still have the best avatar BTW.

Not necessarily.

A sign-and-trade opens the door to move him to a team who couldn’t sign him outright.
