Rule 5 Talk 23

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Santana still hits LHP, which is exactly what we need to pair with Naylor.

He is only a 1B/DH though... We have Kwan, Straw, OGonz and Brennan... One gets sat to add a Santana, Walker etc...

Adding someone who can hit lefties, but plays more positions with power, is what I would want...

Walker is an every day player. Santana is being discussed as a platoon 1B/DH.

We have Kwan, Straw, OGonz, Brennan, and Naylor. They cover 5 positions (3xOF, 1B, DH).

All you need is one bat to knock Naylor and sometimes Brennan out of the lineup vs. LHP.

This means when we're facing lefties, usually:
Kwan/Straw/Brennan in OF with Santana/OGonz at 1B/DH

and sometimes:
Kwan/Straw/OGonz in OF with Naylor/Santana at 1B/DH

When we're facing righties, usually:
Kwan/Straw/Brennan in OF with Naylor/OGonz at 1B/DH

OGonz occasionally plays RF as needed to give other OFs a breather.

This works IMO

Not for me... I want a guy who can be rotated around the diamond that way we can get guys DH days/days off and still have a solid bat, plus make a solid pinch hitter as well...

It'd be easy to give DH days to any of our OFs or 1B with this setup. For Jose you could always give one of the OFs a day off and throw OGonz out there, or just give OGonz the day off. For SS / 2B you probably don't DH them so you can just sub the utility IF in for them.

I don't think much flexibility is lost here.

Getting away from the dodger love for a while.. Perhaps a new (old) target might be considered?

Sam Huff...1B/C B/T: R/R... a target that fits with a team with a pretty good appetite for payroll that is in desperate need of SPs & RP's, primarily and some consideration for a corner IF'ers & OF'ers

The Rangers have been more than satisfied with the results from Jonah Heim as their primary youngster and have both Plawecki and Garver (in his ARB III season) holding spots behind him.. Adding Lavas to the deal would make him the Rangers next prospect catcher?

Mace and Vanasco can both be omitted or replaced depending in the front offices desire..

This solves the catcher needs for the foreseeable future.. Huff can also play a fairly athletic 1B as a platoon partner..

Sorry but nothing about his stat lines scream sign me.

Cool.

This doesn’t change the fact what everyone in here has actually said is true, that Santana can still hit LHP and platoon with Naylor.

.265/.387/.402 slash, 134 wRC+ vs LHP this season.

Not a single person has said they would like him to come back and play everyday. They’ve said they’d like him to come back to platoon with Naylor vs LHP.

That, and he's a gamer and perfect role model for the younger guys. Isn't that a thing this season?

I remember how frustrating Santana was when he was younger, made a lot of boneheaded mistakes at 1B early in his career, and I wanted him gone at some pointy, but he kept getting better and better and blossomed into a fan favorite.

A re-reunion would be cool and fit what this org emphasizes. Same with Cookie (who has a 14M vesting option though, so he's probably still a NYM).

Naylor sits vs LHP in this scenario. It's only complicated if Santana is still expecting a FT role or the Guards really want Naylor to play every day. But regardless of if it's Santana or someone else, they need someone to cover 1B that can hit LHP because Naylor hasn't shown he can.

And why would he sign here to be strictly a platoon player? Because many posters think it would be a good fit?

Santana wouldn't be against coming back on paper, I just think we need a guy who can play multiple positions...

I don’t know.

It’s not going to happen anyways, so we’re wasting our time.

But you’re acting like people want to sign Santana to be a full time player, hence your smartass post with his full season stats, when that hasn’t been the case yet in here. Literally everyone who has mentioned him has mentioned him as a platoon option with Naylor. Only one bringing up full season stats is you.

Getting your panties in a bunch just to get them in a bunch.

Angel Martinez makes the Jim Callis second team "dark sleepers" for the Arizona Fall League.. If you ever get a chance to watch some of this brand of baseball in person.. it's absolutely wonderful and at a time of the year the Phoenix area experiences some of the best weather you'll ever enjoy..

I don't think we should pay what Santana costs to bring him in and platoon at 1B/DH for a year... and I love Los. I overvalue the ability to work counts and make pitchers throw lots of pitches.

I still would look to trade for an everyday guy. We've discussed Walker, but I still would poke around Texas and see what Nate Lowe costs.

Showing his stat line is not a smart ass post so stick your panties back in your pants. Just because I don’t fawn over your every post doesn’t make your criticism more valid. But hey, l know you’re a stay at home dad so you have license to blast posters who don’t think in lockstep with you.
